Greeves m/c and Invacar In Thundersley, my nan used to live in Windermere Road behind Manor Trading Estate, sometimes used to see them testing the bikes as a kid.

Bought my first furnace from around there, and it has a three-phase blower motor , and was made around 1974, I think.
It'd be nice if it had originally been supplied to Greeves......

I think this may have been Greeves/Invacar Factory, it's been awhile since I used to pass by on my way to nans, the old gray stuff plays tricks on me at times now.....

When I was about 13 we found a kind of scrap yard for invacars, seemingly fairly abandoned, we used to climb in and muck about over there. Usefully we found the invacars used Villiers 2 stroke engines so we would raid these for parts occasionally, seeing as we had a few old wreck bikes that we would cane about down the back alleys on, the Villiers was used in lots of the type of tatty old bikes we were able to get hold of. I bet some of those would be worth a fortune now

In the mid 70's I was given a Vincent HRD series c rapid, shame I don't have it now......

As a young teenager I was given a Matchless Silver Hawk. I sold it a few years later for what I thought was a good price...

One of the blue plaques put up at the old Greeves factory in Thundersley by the GRA has been covered up (maybe removed) Its the one on the building in Armstrong Road latterly used by Elmsleigh Invacar. Apparently this has recently been taken over by Jet Wheel Tyres who have errected a new sign on the wall that the plaque is fixed to, hopefully its still there but just covered. It would be good if the new ownes can relocate the sign to where the existing Elmsleigh one was so that the plaque is again visible. Pic below shows buliding in May 2024 with the blue plaque visible.
