It may well be, but most of the issues seem to be where he's made 'repairs' and grafted on the electronic ignition. I need to test the coils once I've dug them out and then run through it for shorts, breaks and resistances. Then see which is the best approach between remake/repair or bin the lot and start from fresh.
Who on earth thinks that having a combination of 50 year old wiring, three 4v coils in series and an electronic ignition unit is a good idea? Then add on some dodgy connections using crappy insulated terminals and a 'the bigger the blob, the better the job' approach to soldering to create the perfect recipe for disaster.

Was/is he an old school TV / valve radio repair sort of guy ??Going by the soldering I'd say he was a solicitor.Was/is he an old school TV / valve radio repair sort of guy ??

You do realise that Solicitor is an anagram of O'Clitoris ?I did consider doing it and not charging but then thought better of it. Partly because no one wnats charity, but mainly because a bloke my/our age doing favour jobs for a teenage girl just screams 'hard drive check required'.Fair play to you, sometimes business isn't just about making money. I'd probably have done the same myself.

You'll have to enlighten me on that one.'hard drive check required'
I remember something similar being discussed by a mechanic on a course years ago.I did consider doing it and not charging but then thought better of it.
Presumably Cato is concerned about accusations of trying to ingratiate themselves with a teenage girl / exchanging work for certain photos, that kind of thing. It's a pity that people have to think that way these days, but it's sensible to not get yourself into that position. You'll have to enlighten me on that one.
Pretty much.Presumably Cato is concerned about accusations of trying to ingratiate themselves with a teenage girl / exchanging work for certain photos, that kind of thing. It's a pity that people have to think that way these days, but it's sensible to not get yourself into that position.
Ditto to above.Fair play to you, sometimes business isn't just about making money. I'd probably have done the same myself.
Additional to the workshop manuals, this lot . Problem of what to do with them all and the Ducati manuals. I’m never going to use them. Bonhams maybe?

Would it be worthwhile to scan and digitise them onto a cd or usb drive? Might be a market for selling as a cd or a digital file.
Be a good way of preserving the valuable info in the books for later generations.

You, Sir, are a Gent.Young kid working two jobs, only/main transport and it got nicked. When she got it back she bought stuff to replace the missing dash, ignition and headlamp but couldn't sort the butchered ignition bolts or headlamp wiring. Tried a few workshops and "we don't work on Chinese stuff" was the stock reply. I don't as a rule, but then I'm also not keen on rules.
In, done and she's picking it up after work today because she has to go to her cleaning job tomorrow. Took me about 3 hours to sort in total, I told her £50:00 which is very poor business practice but that's not always the point.
Five figure shiny classics are great to work on, but is the most important job through for a while as far as I'm concerned.
