Hi my name is adam....got sent here by someone or should i say i got recommended....well i was after a titanium bucket...so did the search on the net and asked a few questions and someone has said i might find the person to help me here so here i am...pm me if you can help....

well the bucket will be used to digest chemicals processing......i need the bucket hold upto 300'C in temp and acid attack such as nitric or hcl...
the bucket should be like a cooking pot..you normally have in the kitchen
i am in huddersfield in west yorkshire can anyone help in my area...what thickness do i need? for heating and what grade?

the acid normally eat's the stainless steel...very quick but the titanium is the only one that does not when the acid is mixed up..i have seen the bucket but it was not in this country....it works well....
The place you've seen using a Ti bucket, were they using the same concentrations/blends and temps? Or are we talking about aqua regia?
Don't know that much about this but i think grade 7 Ti offers the best corrosion properties with reducing acids and grade 12 almost as good but better high temp properties. I didn't think any of the Ti alloys perfomed that well with hcl at higher concentrations and/or temps

Ti won't withstand Aqua Regia... Hell, even Platinum won't and a fellow student very nearly destroyed a 50ml Pt beaker whilst I was at Uni with aqua regia...
The beaker was worth ~£2500
Aqua regia's capable of dissolving all metals including Gold...
What reaction have you planned or what volume do you plan to work in, I could probably come up with an alternative and a cheap manufacturer, I buy similar stuff all the time...

When Germany invaded Denmark in World War II, the Hungarian chemist George de Hevesy dissolved the gold Nobel Prizes of the German physicists Max von Laue and James Franck in aqua regia to prevent the Nazis from confiscating them. The German government had prohibited Germans from accepting or keeping any Nobel Prize after the jailed peace activist Carl von Ossietzky had received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1935. De Hevesy placed the resulting solution on a shelf in his laboratory at the Niels Bohr Institute. It was subsequently ignored by the Nazis who thought the jar—one of perhaps hundreds on the shelving—contained common chemicals. After the war, de Hevesy returned to find the solution undisturbed and precipitated the gold out of the acid. The gold was returned to the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and the Nobel Foundation who recast the medals and again presented them to Laue and Franck.

Fair enough, but as the solution ages Nitrogen Dioxide will be released and the concentration of Nitric acid will decrease allowing the Hydrochloric acid to attack...
Also if the right alloy isn't chosen it will still corrode...
Thanks to all who have replyed...i need to stop Aqua regis from eatin the bucket....i have done testing on titanium and it works...i only do Platinum Group Metals (PGM)
i wanted a 50 liter bucket, i think grade 5 or 7 3mm thick? i am just guessing but this is what i think i need

You may be better with borosilicate glassware...
I appreciate what your trying to do but perhaps working on a smaller scale may be appropriate...
I'm assuming your using ~80% Nitric and ~35% Hydrochloric for the Aqua Regia?
50 litres is a lot of acid to handle in a bucket
They're expensive but I've found these useful in the past:
20 Ltr reaction flask
You can get "flanges" and clamps to fit the top and they won't react with the acids or contents...
Compared to the cost of the Ti you'll need it may work out cheaper for the flask and you can build a frame to manipulate it
They'll survive heating too so won't corrode which Ti will begin to do if the temp rises above room temp...
With the flanges for the flasks you can attach condensers and vents to allow the fumes to escape in a controlled manner...

Grade 5 will be worse than one of the commercially pure grades with regards to corrosion. Only thing going for grade 5 in this application is that it's one of the most commonly used alloys and thus more commonly available but that applies to CP2 as well. Gross generalisation but from the figures in the Timet link some thing like grade 5 will more than half the service life compared with grade 12...

Granted flask in the link is second hand but that's dirt cheap considering what it'd cost to have a 50 litre bucket fabricated let alone one made out of Ti
