L200 propshaft issue

Hi there
recently replaced the centre prop bearing on dads L200 pickup, unfortunately i was an idiot and never marked the orientation of the yolk before i removed it, I was just expecting it to have a kind of master spline so it could only go back together one way.
I lined the yolks back in line when i put it back together, and replaced all the U joints, but Im still getting a vibration at higher speeds.

Im wondering if i have the yolk 180 degrees out?

any ideas?

how are the ends looking ,,, is it slines on one end or flanges on both ends

If it's universal joints, the U's should always be in line. You should be able to see if they are skewed, pull the shaft out and turn it until they are in line then refit.

yeah thats what i did when i put it back together, i used a digital level to make sure they where in line,
I just wondered if the shaft has a balance weight thats now 180 degrees out would that make a vibration?

That is possible. Rotate it 180⁰ and see if it cures it.

actually no ,,, some things dont run that way , its the way I was taught , but mk2 escorts were the first thing I remember where you didnt align the joints

we time joints for the prevention of cyclic variations and vibrations ,,

If the output flanges and the input flashes are in the same plane, perpendicular, then it's probably best to align the UJs.

But, see the link below.

Otherwise it's probably better to be out of phase.

I first thought they were meant to be out of phase from what i had seen online before, but I looked at loads of pictures of an L200 assembly and they all seemed to have the yolks of each half in line with each other

Unless you moved the car while the shaft was off then it can only be 90⁰ or 180⁰ out otherwise you wouldn't have been able to bolt it back on.

Rather than take it back off again you could stick a jubliee clip or 2 on (with the screw bit opposite the existing balance weight) to see if that helps with the vibration?

escort ones were only about 25 degrees out of alignment from memory ,,, find someone who does propshafts and give them a call or try auto doc where you get pictures of the parts and see if you can tell from the pics ,,,, failing that its hang around tesco car park and ask the owner of the first one that drives in if you can have a look at his shaft ,,,, you may need to explain why ,,,, lol

Jeez, I must have been lucky when I redid the UJs on my L200. I put it back together the way I thought it came apart, must of been lucky. No nasty vibrations.

Yep this was the problem i think, id guess the balance weights of both parts were on the same side,
I just split the middle U joint and put it back together 180 degrees from what i had it, Vibration has totally gone!

As soon as I saw the link, and 144 degrees, I knew what it was, and that I'd be in the link somewhere, and I am.
And it's Rover P6, but not as far as I know, range rover.
