Less chance of no lube when the boot fails.
Seems to be the way a number of oneline sources think...
Though one came up with this...
" In the service manual the proceedure for replacing the boots is outlined with the second to last step being to "fill the synchromesh with spider joint oil". It seems that the international ban on spider hunting came along in the 80's and severely impacted the spider joint oil industry and farmed raised spiders and joint oil extration labor cost soared. "

Look up land rover one shot swivel grease.There's stuff called liquid grease that is between ep90 and a normal grease. You normally warm it up to pour it in.
Not sure that 46 year old oil will be testable?Is there any oil left inside the old original joints that you could get tested to find out what the original oil is?
IIRC BSAFWD club had some original BSA Lanchester Transmission Fluid tested, that was about 70 years old.Not sure that 46 year old oil will be testable?
