and sharpen plenty of tungstens at a time ,,, and welcome to the forumYou will need pure argon gas too. For rent free gasses AV Taylors and the motor factor used to be TMS opposite screw fix sell SGS gasses. Or use Hobbyweld, from Dixons in Westerhope, though David Dixon are agents for them.
Learning you will use a lot of gas get the big bottle.
Got torch, big Argon cylinder, regulator (but will replace as, although gas emitted, meters don’t register)Might help to say where you are with it. Do you have a torch, gas, regulator etc. Do you understand what any of the controls do?
There’s a link to a tig tutorial under the banner at the top left of this page. Try clicking on the word TIG![]()

presumably torch specific to Lincoln machines? Or just THIS one? I was surprised to see the small cable to the torch in parallel with the gas connection. Not like others.A good machine, use one on many jobs on TIG for stainless steel butts, as above if you know what the control knobs do, its a simple machine, Lincoln plug for the remote and specific power/gas adaptor required for your TIG torch.
Are you sure youve not got an empty gas bottle…Got torch, big Argon cylinder, regulator (but will replace as, although gas emitted, meters don’t register)
Big knob is current, smaller ones,L-R might be: startup current, downslope, postgas. Switch is HF or Lift (I’m using HF).
Also received a foot pedal but this has big 8-pin plug (1 centre, 7 circumference) whereas the remote socket (top right)? Is only 5-pin.
Have split some tungstens, and sharpened them, and am practising on mild steel offcuts. What started passably has degenerated into stuck tungstens, stuck filler rod, holey welds. Will persist.
Would still like a proper owner’s manual.

Hope not! Already? ‘Tis a big cylinder! Are you sure youve not got an empty gas bottle…

Yes but was it full when you got it, or did you acquire it with the machine.Hope not! Already? ‘Tis a big cylinder!
Yup. Inside with a full, newly-bought SHS cyl from AVTaylor. Problem probably caused by faulty meter which meant a surfeit of Argon. Hopefully it hasn’t emptied the cylinder in one go! And glasses required and worn.Yes but was it full when you got it, or did you acquire it with the machine.
Clean bright steel helps too. Are you inside or out….Wind makes tig difficult, as it blows your shielding gas away. Do you need reading glasses, if so wear them under the mask!
Just learning to keep your torch at a sensible distance for a consistent arc and youll be away. Forget the rod till you can get a flowing pool along a piece off flat plate. Once you do add rod it melts in the pool and keep the end in the gas coverage.Yup. Inside with a full, newly-bought SHS cyl from AVTaylor.
