Ear defenders and masks

I've received some 3M Optime IIs today, and as I feared, they interfere badly with an ESAB Savage A41. Doesn't seem like the mask will be able to clear Optime Is either, but might be worth a try once these IIs are returned.

If these below don't work, I guess the only option is ear plugs? Which I am really not fond of and would rather not, but the hearing must be protected.

Does anybody have any other recommendation for defenders that clear a mask?

Why do you want ear muffs while welding?
If its for noisy grinding etc I've managed to get slim ear protectors like the 3m one under one of these Honeywell Bionic masks

Mainly as I'll be in a confined space so noise will be exacerbated, other machines like air compressor going, also for plasma cutting without having to get plasma goggles and be rearranging headgear. I just can't stand earplugs...

But the Optime IIs have been returned and Is are on the way so fingers crossed!

Earplugs?

They slowly push earwax back into my ears, causing it to become impacted.

I do keep a tub around because sometimes they're just a better choice, but if I used them everyday, I would be getting my ears syringed several times a year.

One pair of ear defenders is half the price of getting my ears seen to.
