Can you buy welding googles for mig

Hello all, I am a beginner welder. I have a auto darking helmet great for welding with if you have the room. Since i am welding underneath the vehicle and inside the rear wheel arches i am finding it hard to get my head close enough to see what i am doing due to the helmet being so big. So i was wondering if you can buy welding googles which are ok for mig welding has i would fine these easier to used. My parnter had some and i try them and it gave me more moveability in a tight place but i think these were for gas welding so i dont like to use them, Has the light seem bighter them in the helmet..

One point against goggles is the fact that they don't cover your face, thus leaving you exposed to UV rays which could cause skin problems, you would have to protect your face with a NON-FLAMMABLE cover of some sort.

They are NOT for MIG, you will get severe UV burns on your face...what you want is a monkey mask (half way down the page)

Thanks for the replys i had a look at the monkey mask looks weird but needed. I didnt think you could get uv rays burns from mig but you are the people who know your stuff so i WONT use them and just have to suffer and managed for now until i get myself a monkey mask...
I have already burnt myself first day welding by the gun. I was lying on my back and just finish tacking a piece of metal on when i put the gun down on my body but near the face and you guess it i got burnt from the tip of the gun on my face. Serves me right has i wasnt thinking......

You can get more than a sun tan without protection, in India where H&S laws are very lax if at all existant, they are beginning to see a rise in skin cancers to the face, hands and upper chest areas, a large number of the victims have been in an occupation involving welding.

a lad at work done some tig welding with cutting gogles and got burned by the uv rays. we had a good laught at him the next day!!

You will not get arc eye through goggles which are UV rated as it is the UV which burns the conjunctiva causing the discomfort known as arc eye (ark eye is what Noah probably suffered) or flash. Ordinary window glass will stop UV rays.

Hang on a minute... are you saying that if a person tries to mig weld, using ordinary window glass as a UV eye shield, that they will suffer no ill effects other than crappy welds?

Ordinary window glass will only stop 85/90% (depending on thickness) UV rays below 300 nm & about 40% of 300-400 nm.

mig & tig produce enough uv to give you burns off the reflected uv let alone direct path

as said, if you do we want pics...not had a good laugh for ages

I knew a guy who tried welding on his car wearing gas goggles with darker lenses bodged in place.
He got the job done and looked fantastic afterwards, like a panda bear, with white eyes and amazing redface.
I forgot to tell him just how silly he looked until we had been at the pub for a while.
