The quiet environment in which the good burghers of Grays Lane live is an ideal spot for relatives still coming to terms with Dad having had his legs blown off. The grounds of Headley Court are unsuitable for two reasons:
Just like with welders, it seems, the Americans do it better. Over there, facilities such as the one SAAFA want to build are known as Fisher Houses, named after Zachary Fisher and his nephews who paid for their construction. These Houses are seen as an asset to the communities in which they are situated.
Some good news. Ex-servicemen and women from the ARmy Rumour SErvice (ARRSE) have been handing out leaflets in the Ashtead area, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive, by all accounts. And the petition has received over 12000 signatures.
- This facility is needed very quickly, due to our adventures in the Middle East. Headley Court is in a Green Belt area - even if the MoD give SAAFA the land to build a facility, it would take years for the planning process to proceed.
- A facility in Headley Court's grounds is unsuitable as it provides no relief from the traumatic scenes of the hospital. Being confronted with horrific injuries all the time will not help family members come to terms with the injuries and trauma suffered by Dad.
