Decent digital vernier caliper

I am after a decent set of the above, any recomendations?
Not mega money, they must turn off completly with the off button! I am sick of replacing the batteries in the current sets I have. Apparently they dont actually ever turn off completly so the batteries drain!

Oh my mate has a set with a dial gauge on them not digital at all but they look great, do I need those?

Digital I have two sets one by Moore and wright isnt too bad with batteries, the other set is Mitutoyo digital, they were about 80 quid are ok.

i have both i like the dial gauge one but i like the digital as you can convert to metric or imperial with the press of a button. i have expensive ones and a cheapo aldi 10 quid one which is as accurate as the expensive ones i even have a left handed one

Re battery issues I think the set I linked above doesnt automatically turn on if you move them. The listings should note this if its a concern and that way you will have to press the button to turn them on and not have batteries going flat.

I have a set of those exactly the same different brand name, and I cant even see the screen it has failed

I bought my lad one of these from Zoro for his 3D printing dabblings and it's been excellent. Doesn't switch on the drop of a hat, you have to switch it on. Also takes a 2032 battery rather than those naff LR44 types:

I think I've only had a couple of batteries in my Mitutoyo calipers over last 20 years.

All calipers are "always on" as far as I'm aware, the button just turns the LCD display off.

I've said it before, but the Aldi 7 quid ones are as accurate as they can be with 2 decimal places resolution - I have calibrated kit at work (including slip gauges certified to 5 decimal places) and within the resolution the Aldi ones read exactly the same as the expensive Mitutoyos.
The only real difference is in the 'feel', the cheaper ones sometimes grate a bit (although I think it was Maker a while back who said his new Mitu caliper was a bit rough) - all the Mitutoyos at work are smoother than a baby-oiled Emma Bunton
Wherever possible I open the box and try them in the shop, pick the best one

As an aside, I'm a bit miffed that our 10 year old Mitutoyo granite surface plate has just been downgraded from a Grade 0 to a Grade 1 - it's outside flatness spec by 4.8 thousandths of a milimetre, in one place - I've had to rewrite all our calibration uncertainty budgets to take it into account

i lie they are the lidl ones but same thing, they are accurate, that is not the problem with them. ?Maybe I need to invest in better batteries and not the 10 for a £10 ones

I just take the battery out if I'm not needing to use it... cheap batteries here too - free in fact: I snaffle the ones from work when the Mitu starts flashing 'low battery' - procedures dictate no measuring on depleted batteries (though I have never found it to make a difference )

My understanding is that’s part of what makes the difference between cheap and good ones. I paid £60 I think for a mitutoyo 5 years or more ago and have yet to replace the battery. I have no regrets.

The M&W job there is the exact same one I've had for a number of years, and it's been excellent.
..as mentioned previously a very handy capability is convert metric to imp. at the push of a button.
