I'm totally lost with is problem .... need help!! Started out couple of weeks ago OSF indicator not working (please no jokes that BMW drivers don't need indicators. I'm really not in the mood). Like the 'old' days it clicked on and off very quickly as though a bulb had blown.
The side (door mirror) and rear indicators were working normally as were the main, dip and DRL's. . Firstly I looked to change the bulb ...mmmm no bulb ..full LCI headlight all LED .....even worse lamp is sealed and you can't change the LED. New lamp is over a grand ... so I put the headlamp back in, plugged in the main harness plug and... no lights at all in the headlight. No main, no dip, no DRL and of course no indicator.
Since then I have tried all sorts to fault find the problem without success. Literally all I did was disconnect the plug (only has 6 wires) but a week later I still can't fathom it out. There is a large module at the side of the light that is coded to the car ..I took this out (carefully) cleaned plug and socket with contact spray ..still no lights.
As I can't use the car and it's a pig to get it all apart and back together I decided to buy a 2nd hand fully tested headlight - cheap at £650
- exactly the same ...no lights at all. Every other light in the car is fine. Although there is canbus control I thought I would try and check out the voltages at the plug. There is a permanent live between the earth, the headlight wire and the DRL wire...even with the car switched off and locked they are still live. I wired a small LED bulb into the blue wire (indicator) and it works as it should flashes perfectly. Put the original light back in and no lights at all.
I know it's hard to diagnose from afar but any help or advice welcome as I just can't use the car - all because of the indicator!! Have to say I did ask BMW for a price when the indicator first stopped working and was quoted £50 for the part and £100 (half hour labour) ...it turned out they were quoting for fitting a new bulb in the door mirror!! When I said it was the headlight ...£1200 for the part plus 3 hours labour (£600) to fit and program it.
