Local beach. Must have been a thousand tons of the stuff piled up after the last storm! Way back in the past all the local farmers would have been down to put on the tattie fields, now they dont bother, just me.

Does salt cause any harm ?
or does the rain wash it off before you apply it in the field ?

Best left for a few weeks for the rain to wash the salt out. It does kill the grass where its tipped, but after its moved the grass comes back very lush.
In the past most farms here were maybe 40-80 acres, either dairy or mixed, now most have been amalgamated into larger holdings, so I guess the farmers dont have the time to collect it as they are too busy managing the large areas.

I dont think so, but the red deer are often on the beaches eating it.

Used to go collecting it with my parents when I was a kid, I'd like to go get a load when the garden is sorted but its gard work humping it up the beach by hand

genuine question. Who actually owns the seaweed? I know the coastline is owned by the crown, but what's on it?
