Tools that you can NEVER find

Is it just me or are there certain tools that require 45 minutes searching for them every time you need them

For me 2x frequent examples are a silicone gun or digital calipers. I have to spent at least 45 minutes searching 2x garages for them every time I need to use them. Its not really an organisation problem I think they are just cursed to go never be where you would expect them. Then I buy multiples of them and the same thing, still can't find them.

unfortuantly its a age thing , as you get older short term memory worsens but the amount of tooling you have grows ...so more to lose

wow , lucky you , make the most of it last time I noticed was about 45 yet all of a sudden well into retirement..enjoy what the day brings eh.

I concur but my callipers live with my measuring instruments of other varieties in the M&W wood tool makers box. Except for my spare set that live with my reloading dies in the spare room.

As for the silicone gun, I have 6 as I keep loosing them.

I had my first merc at 16, bought my second at 18 and the others followed after that If I had a shed then yes ill have 30 or 40 of em so watch this space in the future

My mother had a 350 SL many years ago 78 on an S if I remember correctly was a very nice thing, the odd occasion I got to borrow it. Was one of the old mans mid life crisis. My Mrs had an SLK was ok, but the very latest mercs just don't seem to have the quality now.

Yes the Mercs from the 80's and 90's were the highest build quality. Their company slogan at that time was "the best or nothing" and the cars were exceptional quality.

After this weekend it was my tiling tools, having 3 of us wasting 30mins to find them.
On an ongoing basis it’s my nearly all my hand tools since getting a much larger tool cabinet. I’m slowly getting learning where they are now but spend a lot of times opening and closing drawers until I find what I’m looking for.

Last week I was looking for a set of digital calipers.
Several times I scanned over the place they were sitting, right in front of me.
I suspect it's a 'recognition' problem, in that I had an image of what they looked like, but I was actually thinking of another set in a different box.

My mate recons it's the Martians, they beam the tools up to their spacecraft to have a look/see, but their beaming technology isn't precise enough in replacing the tools where they took them from....

Now where's that spanner......

That has to be it! There is no other explanation.

After 1 solid hour of looking for my digital calipers again on Saturday I realised something. Even at £5 an hour of my time im out more than the cost of the calipers every couple of months. So I ordered another pair from amazon prime for next day sod that. Hopefully the aliens don't displace both or ill just keep buying them.

If you count it as a tool, I've been trying to find a pack of Quakehold putty that has been sucked into a black hole somewhere for two weeks now.

Know why I need it? My nodding dog won't stop sliding around on the dash.

Pick your storage spot - and return tools there after each use.
Those few seconds/minutes are more than saved by not having to look for them next time.

So while not everything I sue gets quite that treatment, most does, especially at work. I cannot understand those of my colleagues who leave tools where they were last using them (as well as boxes, wrappers, instructions, old parts, spare fasteners etc)

I treated myself to a new set of Trend router bits when they were on offer.
Needed one a couple of weeks ago and I could not find them.
Having a major tidying session in the workshop now to find them and a few other things that have gone missing.
