Sealant for cracked rubber intake boot?

I got my new to me 190E 2.5-16 to start up today. But its not happy (hasn't run in 14 years)

Looking in the intake I can see daylight through a large rubber boot. I haven't got speaking to my MB dealer yet but from goggling it, this part may be no longer available.

It looks like this -



Short term at least, it looks like ill have to try sealing up my old cracked one so the car can run better.

Any suggestions of what to use as a sealant for the cracked rubber boot please? Maybe black windscreen adhesive?

Black Stixall.

Sikaflex, or windscreen adhesive would work. I used similar to fix a bike intake manifold.

If it's all there and just cracked then Loctite 401 super glue used to be a good choice for bonding rubber
Works well for bonding neoprene to make odd size o-rings.

Thanks for the replies - I had a fresh tube of black silaflex on the shelf so I used that. A thin layer first then ill let that cure for 24hrs and add more.





I will check with my dealer if a new one can be ordered or if its fully NLA meaning no chance. In that case ill have to try to find a good used one which will not be easy or quick. So the Sika may be my only choice in the short term.

Could you make a mould and cast one out of Polyurethane?

One of the silicon hose makers might be able to replicate that.

Or maybe a 3d printer project.

also look abroad, u'll find loads those model all over North Africa, Greece, Israel, and S Africa...etc
I wouldn't be suprised if they are making proper copy's in Israel.....
I've bought quite a few weird and wonderful items fore old cars from Egypt....
I reg serviced a small fleet of 80's M/B 308's....King pins in northern europe are not available....
Here in Crete they are available off the shelf...there are hundreds of that type/year of trucks around....still working...

Maybe - but im not sure TPU would stand up to prolonged engine bay temperatures and oil / petrol exposure? It is a very hot running engine with the tubular manifold etc it gets scorching hot

Ideally make a mold from the original and cast some new ones from that.

As a repair, I would use the isocyante containing permenent rubber glue, commonly used for neoprene wetsuit repairs. On the inside of the part something like tyre repair security coat.

Phew - I found a much better solution



A benzworld thread says a 300E boot fits the cosworth 190s AOK. So I ordered a new one of those.

I checked with my MB dealer and they said the 190E boot is not in stock and also not NLA so there is a chance it can be ordered I just dont know how long it will be but they will get back to me and I will order one if I can as a longer term solution.

But- should be sorted for now with a new compatible part

Might be an idea to wrap the exhaust manifold or get it ceramic coated.

MB dealer phoned me back and confirmed the 190E 2.5-16 intake boot is no longer available. So my hopes are pinned on a 300E item fitting AOK like the BE thread said.

I used some aerospace fuel tank sealant to repair a cracked carb diaphragm ages ago and it worked great.
