Hi Everyone, long time lurker but first time poster!
I’m currently on the lookout for a Mig welder for my car workshop, I’ve recently set up on my own and opened my own garage.
I’m now looking a mig welders and a lot has changed since I last bought one for myself (that I sold thinking I’d done with welding stuff at home, that was a parweld 181, it was ok but found the torch connection intermittent and I had to bodge it to keep it working, it did however weld a chassis back together on a series 3 Land Rover)
Now all the ones I’ve used in my time as far as i know where transformer based welders, like an old Cebora, SIP, Sealey and Lincoln.
I was impressed with the sealey, I think it was a supermig200 for the price, but it was brand new and I left that garage about 6months after the purchase so not really found out how it stood up to long term use.
I’ve been offered by one of my parts suppliers a GYS Multiweld 200M for £695+Vat
I’ve seen a good deal on an Oxford Migmaker 202 which I believe is traditional transformer
I’ve seen an SIP Weldmate auto plus 200A with a trolley.
And I’ve recently seen the Paton ProMigs but can’t find many reviews.
I need something that will be able to manoeuvre around a workshop and be contained, I know I could make a trolley for something that isn’t, but that involves time I currently don’t have
I will really only be using it for Mig and be looking at getting a separate TIG machine later down the line so a multiprocess is kind of not necessary.
The workshop has plenty of 13amp single phase sockets, no 16amp (yet, but may be added later if required) it does have three phase but only one socket, nowhere near my ramps.
So the question is what’s a good buy/recommended, for mainly car bodywork but some heavier stuff occasionally probably nothing more than 5/6mm? Could be used all day every day for a week then not used for a few weeks, and I’m on a dusty industrial estate as there is a brick cutting company nearby (not ideal) so will need to withstand that too
Budget is at most £1k with the vat, wire and gas etc not included
Thank you in advance!
