Another low investment thing to do would be to install a meter at the house end. Do monthly meter reads on both ends of the line and you'll know if there is a leak relatively quickly.
If you did that and put in a 200+l pressure vessel/accumulator at the same time, you might run for decades without needing any extra investment.
If you found mains pressure was a bit low, you could also add a booster pump to boost your pressure vessel up to better pressures.

I feel 50mm is overkill and a big step up in terms of cost, fitting cost and difficulty to work with. @reb78 could use an online calculator to confirm. Chances are the meter and pipework before it is only around 25mm anyway.Is the pipe all your responsobility or is some of it the water company? Seems a long run for a domestic supply. Id have thought a 50mm pipe would be the way to go, if bothering to replace it. Folk use a lot more water now than back in the old days.
Last figure I heard for a bore hole was 12k, some of our neighbours put one in as the spring that used to supply a house and a cottage isn't man enough for the extra propertie they now have and higher water consumption.
