A salamander something or another here lasted well over 10 years. There were service parts available when it gave trouble but for time pressure, I just bought a straight replacement that looked identical.
I would be happy to replace ours after 10 years, made a massive difference having decent water pressure!.
It's on and off all day with washing machine, taps, shower etc. Believe they are a brushless motor.
Still going strong. Our ceramic valve taps do 5 years before the limescale kills them off.

Ours used to do the whole HW but I changed it to just service the shower. Was a bit annoying if someone used stuff at night and the pump kicked in.

I installed our non vented system last year, mainly because we had three fifty gallon tanks in the loft for the old vented system and the weight and potential for leaks bothered me greatly. We have had a couple of leaks over the years, and really need a new ceiling in the bathroom because of it.
New system is in the utility room cum cellar cum "temporary" kitchen, which is half underground, so no more worries about flooded living rooms. As far as the system itself is concerned, it works very well. We already had the oil fired boiler in place there, so now all the plumbing stuff is in one place. I only bought the hardware, so it didn't cost much. You quote sounds a lot to me, but then I usually do most things myself, so out of touch with the outrageous prices being charged by tradesmen these days.
I would not want a pressurised tank in the loft myself, but other than that, provided that you have a high recovery tank, it is probably the best solution for your present household. We have had a combi boiler installed in the rental flat, and they are great for a single person or small household where space is an issue.
Heating would not really be a problem, but hot water would be, if several people wanted to shower at the same time ........unless it was a communal shower

Our vented system gets serviced every year and I discussed this with the service engineer when he was last here a few weeks ago. He said there was no issue with everything going in the loft. The cold water tank is currently located more or less above the kitchen/airing cupboard, and would be replaced with the unvented tank, if that's what we decide to do.

If that is done at the incoming supply (internal stoptap), have a good look at the pipe from there to the boiler cold inlet to make sure it is not restrictive.
Consider running 22mm between the two places if any doubt or borderline results.
The current feed is 15mm and has been identified as needing to be replaced with 22mm. The gas installer suggested this could be postponed until the kitchen is revamped (the pipework is currently concealed) but this does bother me slightly as they could blame the 15mm pipework if the system doesn't perform adequately after the initial "upgrade".

15mm can still pass a lot of water, provided the incoming pressure is high enough. In older houses, the mains service pipe could be lead, or black PE, both of which may be of a similar bore. Later blue MDPE was 20mm OD with a slightly larger bore, but latterly the standard seems to be 25mm OD. But I believe this was done to cover lower pressures in some areas.
I don't think this will be an issue for you (apart from possibly noise) unless your pressure is low. In the longer term, would still replace with 2mm though

You could run a temporary 25mm mdpe pipe to test it with first. Either an intermediate solution run unclipped under existing kitchen units. Or very temporary across the room/s.
We have a blue service pipe. Not sure of the size without checking. Thanks for the advice.
As I'll be doing the kitchen, temporary could turn into long term!

I fitted a twin Salamander pump in an ex's place and it was great... well, for the first person to have a shower. If you had guests there would be a lot of screaming from the bathroom - everyone assumed there would be lots of hot water. Just the two of us, not a problem.
I had to change the outlet fitting from the HW tank so there was a dedicated feed to the pump, leaving a separate outlet for the HW taps around the house... stopped the flow dropping off if someone washed their hands. Seem to think it was named after a county... Kent fitting? Sussex fitting? Something like that.
As we're in the northeast of course we have proper water, none of that chalky southern rubbish. I can recall as a kid going to my aunty's place around Kenilworth/ Southam and if you filled a sink the water was so cloudy it looked like you'd already washed in it! Even now I still find showers feel slimy if I'm in Hampshire/ Wiltshire. It used to be even nicer here when we got it from up in the Dales but it's never been quite the same since they opened Kielder.

ive got a combi for the last 10 years
and had one in the last house for 10 years as well
yes if some one puts on a tap on the shower looses a bit of power but you wait 20 secs and it back on again if some ones upstairs having a shower you just use a bit of common sence and wait for 5 mins or be as quick as you can
we have 2 showers in the house as soon as you hear the other shower go off when there drying and tidying up i can be showered in the 2nd shower
saves a big hot water tank space and more to go wrong as well if the boilers working you dont have to worry about any thing else
