Hi Folks, bit of an odd question for a welding forum, but I know that this is the font of all knowledge, I've bought a very old leather suitcase at auction and I was wondering how best to clean and feed the leather, bearing in mind the leather's so thick it feels like it full of clothes when it's empty and it certainly wasn't made with plane travel in mind. It's so heavy I think they forgot to take the cow out of the leather before they made it. Thanks in anticpation, Tim.

I've just ordered a block of saddle soap and I'll give that a go, I don't want to risk ruining it as it's about 125yrs old and absolutley lovely.

Neats Foot oil mixed with 2 parts of luke warm water , worked in then swabbed off is a common way of softening & removing grease from leather & suede collars it also softens the leather so does clear dubbin but you'll not get it to shine easily .
As some have said go to one of the horsey animal feed stores and see their selection of leather cleaning & preparation products there are dozens of them available .

I normally use Saphir Medal d or , the rejuvinator cream ,,, works well and is gentle . I use their cream polishes too ...
not on my welding jacket ,,, just shoes and boots .
