I used the multitool yesterday. I had to cut and cap the central heating pipes in the kitchen under a cabinet.

First problem was a pipe clip with the top screw rounded off and the bottom screw not accessible as the floor tiles had covered it. After 30 mins of messing about and swearing a lot I remembered the multitool and just stuck the blade behind the pipe and cut the screws off.
Second problem again after faffing about trying to get the pipe slice to turn but only being able to left hand on it and still tight to the wall I could barely move it. Multitool cut straight through them, first cut wasn’t so good as wife didn’t hold the pipe steady.

Also recently used for a lot of sanding as well as removing grout and adhesive from tiles

Let us know if it survives/works for more than a short while. What's the vibration level like on those cheap multitools?

Battery definitely wins with a multitool, you need them when you're in an awkward spot and you're like "damn if I could only make just a little cut right here it would be perfect..." which doesn't hugely mesh with cords. They don't really need the power a cord provides either - if you're pushing a multitool to the limit, you should probably be using another tool!

Im in the battery camp too, used mine yesterday, cutting a pipe in a cupboard. Money well spent. Handy for the awkward rusty bolt too.

Dewalt corded for me, but I replaced the power cord with a 10 metre one, no more pulling an extension around.

I have cordless drill/driver/grinder and torch, but prefer a cord multitool.

I have the same Bosch 12v one as @MattF but it stopped working a week ago , I also have a corded Bosch one that's very powerful but has the star lock blades that are very expensive. I've been using them both a lot doing the house up.

Mine is a Makita, doesn't get used very often but I wouldn't be without it.

I went for a mains one, I didn't think my pattern of use - once every 18 months or so - would do batteries much good.

The adaptor is made in two halves and fuse welded together. It can be split, a screw added and made to work with a non-QR machine. Similarly, there are other designs on the 3D printing sites, and 3D printing in metal is offered by the Chinese.

I use mine a LOT. Its versatile. I found it the easiest thing to cut sheets of 6mm ply with when doing my camper (a wide blade makes it easier to run straight lines by far than a jigsaw).

Cutting into stuff "in situ" is of course where it excels. Cutting into the Purlins mid-wall to do an over lap cut to replace rotten ends that fly out to external - piece of cake compared to chiselling etc. Random trimming etc - just the job.

(I have an Erbaur corded one - wish I'd got one years ago)

I'm just awkward!! I refuse to go down the "everything has to be battery" route.
I finally bought a multitool recently and went makita corded after much deliberation, even though I already have makita 18v gear.
It came with a nicely flexible monster length lead, doesn't have a big lump of battery on the end, is lighter and never needs charging.
But most of all, as a tool I won't wear out it in a hurry and I like to buy tools to last, in a decade it won't be depending on expensive and obsolete batteries.

You can get pneumatic versions as well.
Handy if you need to flood the cut with coolant to remove heat/debris.

Might work well on tiles/stone/glass?
Certainly a useful tool if you need to put a hole in a horse
