A question for those with Paton migs

Hi all,

Second week glueing metal together with a new Paton 160 and I'm having problems starting beads..

What I'm seeing is, unless voltage and wfs is much higher than suggested, it starts out really cold with little to no puddle but will then kick into life. Once it is going, it welds pretty good.

Messing about today, I noticed that if I press the trigger release and press again when starting the bead it works a treat from the start.

Does anyone have an idea what's going on? Could it be amps ramping up, gas related? A setting maybe or could the welder be defective?

does it have a soft start feature? i had an inverter that had some sort of soft start that took some getting used to

That's a good question.. No idea! I'll have a read of the user manual or see what Google reckons. Thanks.

They do have a soft/slow start feature.
Have a read of the manual.
You'll probably want to print out the relevant page and take to the machine as the menu is not particularly easy to use

Patons have many settings that can at first seem to be overwhelming but once you cycle through them and understand what each one does then I reckon you'll be able to sort any issues out. I have a Paton Standard Mig and think its the mutts nuts!
