Then fit a 4 way tool post. And if that's not enough, have several.

Spent last 40min cleaning the top slide

It was packed solid with grease and aluminium curls.

Few taps then with hammer and broke free

So yea there is a rotation on top slide but was so coated in Shmoo l it wouldn't move manually

I'll take it apart and clean it properly later on

Rotating the compound slide is a poor way of achieving rotation in the toolpost.

I fI understand you right your toolpost will only lock down in one of four positions, square to the compound each time? If so then you should be able to remove that toolpost and then remove the indexing peg from the underside.

after freeing up the top slide, under all the gunk there is graduations on the slide allowing me to lock it down in my desired position.

So while i save up for a quick release holder this will do while i get used to the bigger machine. Previously it was a small lathe, last time i had a larger machine was a long time ago in college

The slide was solid with gunk, previous owner had it for alloy wheel repairs and turning down the welds. So i would say its been locked in this position for least a decade when see what was holding it solid.

Yes happy with it, when the slide wouldnt rotate i taught crap its a fixed unit. Dont like using force hence why i asked to see if it was fixed or had i missed something.

Just been using it for an hour or so getting used to the new control layout over my small lathe.
