Milwaukee repairs thread

I have successfully repaired quite alot of my Milwaukee items. I buy a good few tools as spares or repair and see if I can fix them.

My latest purchase arrived today-



Vac said to be in full working order but SDS drill dead.

I checked the drill and sure enough of course it's dead. LED light comes on which is a good sign but motor not going.

I checked for an easy fix of a broken wire inside but no such luck. On further checking I can see shorts in a couple of the mosfets.

Handily I had a set of 5x new mosfets on the shelf so I guess I ty replacing 2 or 3 of them tomorrow with my hot air soldering station and a soldering iron



First time ive found shorted mosfets first attempt to replace them.

This is a Mid Torque I finished this morning. I got it recently for £47 as spares or repairs as not working



But when I tried it, it WAS working. I asked the seller again and he said the fault was permanent that it wasn't working for him but could have been then one battery he had is bad. So anyway- I took it all apart and cleaned it up including trigger incase that was intermittent. I also added fresh hammer grease.



As per photos above it had a bad case of MLBS. (Milwaukee Loose Battery Syndrome) Maybe that caused issues for the last guy. JB Weld = sorted.

This morning I reassembled and tested it on s class wheel bolts. Working great, lots of power. No issues at all.

Last job was to 3D print myself replacement TPU side bumpers that were missing & re-paint in the logos-



And @Turbo Still hadn't bought a 3d printer

Update on the SDS drill. I tried removing the motor circuit board from the heat sink but its glued on.

I was still able to use a hot air station and iron to remove the bad mosfet. Once removed from the board I verified it tested bad off the board too and that the board was now testing OK. The other mosfets were also OK when the bad one was removed.

1x new mosfet soldered back on:



Note that it doesn't matter some of the pins are now linked with solder. They are linked inside the mosfet anyway. The critical thing is that the gate pin on the left is on its own. Testing all good now. I JB welded loose battery lugs and in the morning ill try it. Fingers crossed this works, I will be well chuffed if it does as the timing couldn't be better I could do with a self dust extracting drill for my ongoing garage electrical re wire.

Curiosity killed the cat. And nearly got me killed if she realises im still in the garage!

I put it back together enough to test.



And - nothing. Dead. Oh dear.

Then I noticed the LED wasn't coming on at all. I had definitely seen it on before before I took it apart. LED had been on but motor wouldn't turn.

So moved the cable around and what do you know the LED came on and this time the motor works! So it is a success but ive discovered a second problem that there is a damaged wire so I will find that and solder it in the morning. Then I should have a fully working M18 SDS drill with Vac
