2025 ford ranger

I'd never heard of this, wow interesting.

Never had an issue doing multiple oil changes on a number of cars using this type of filter housing. Always thought they seem very robust. Whereabouts do they crack?

usually the top of it but have had them split on the threaded section, i can only assume from previously being overtightened.
my brother has t6s through his work on a lease scheme on a service contract, one the cap cracked and another the main body split
not unique to this brand as many other german manufacturers have a history of these issues, even the gasket between housing a blocks failing is becoming common

An update. Local ford dealers have fitted a new sump filled with oil and there's no drive. Ford are sending a transmission specialist to do some tests. New gearbox is £6k but none are available.

It used to be known as Fix Or Repair Daily by my father's contemporaries. But I ever found it so, maybe different era of cars.

I know of 2 rangers locally that have been sold spares or repair just out of warranty for gear box issues. And a neighbour who is MD of a company that buys 30 pickups a year…will never buy another ford for problems at 2 years old just out of warranty for milage.

Shame really as I quite like them, but think Id pay extra for the VW with the 5 years warranty and service plan included in the price.

At one time I would have said buy a Toyota Hilux and stop messing about....

But of late - looking at price/problems/reliability/warranty - the pick of the twin cab trucks is an: Isuzu D max....

A guy called here a few weeks back to collect some parts. He had a Ranger which was always dealer serviced. Wet belt went just at about 100,000 miles and whole engine was replaced under warranty. Gearbox then went the same way a few thousand miles later and was replaced under warranty. He was waiting for the dealer to book it in for a recall concerning the back axle.
A friend of mine runs two Rangers as work trucks . He has a fleet of lorries which they service themselves but the Rangers go back to the dealer for servicing just so that when the inevitable happens, they can't say it was because they didn't service them. I remeber when he bought them they wern't cheap and he had to wait an eternity for them. Prior to these, he used to run Toyota pick-ups which had done rediculously high mileages with minimal problems..

But of late - looking at price/problems/reliability/warranty - the pick of the twin cab trucks is an: Isuzu D max....

Id have agreed with you, and that was my plan, but having driven a new auto one last week for the first time, Im not-so sure. A but wooden for want of a better way of putting it. As for the Izusu, we had a 15 plate 2.5 and it wasnt bad, but the 1.9 auto I had as a loner when my Mitsubishi was in for a warranty claim, picked up service time, it was quite coarse and a bit flat. Apparently they remap them to 205 hp and are a bit better. Very tinny too.

VW has 5 year warranty and 5 services in the price, being a fairly low milage user that would work. But Toyota have brought out a Land cruiser commercial so another option. I do like the Toyota warranty again been a low milage user it would probably outlast me need for heavy towing.

No I agree….the true price is total cost over 5 years, depreciation, services etc. if it wasnt for our occasional need to tow, Id probably just drop to one car, and it would probably be a Lexus NX, replacing the Rav4 and pickup.

Where I worked a couple of years back I towed heavy regularly with a D-Max 2.5 Twin Turbo, 63-plate. That thing pulled like a demented dentist! Drive it fast solo though, & it was a bit like a powerful high speed bouncy castle - no way should a soft-suspensioned, over 2-tonne lump on balloon tyres be that fast - the running gear was no match for the motor.
They also had a newer 1.9 version - as you say it was underwhelming. Not as gutless as expected towing heavy, but not a patch on the bigger one.
The thing is... a big twin cab 4x4 pickup is IMO a one-trick pony. Not as comfy or roomy as a car or a van, the rear bed is too high to work out of & zero security even with a truck top, the turning circle & lock are rubbish, and they aren't great off-road either. What they excel at (or should do) - is towing weight. If you don't tow - they are pointless thirsty trinkets.

Bouncy castle is a fair description of driving most pickups. Not quite as bouncy as a tractor, but still bouncy.

I also had a lone of a new KGM pick up used to be called Sassyoung. Wouldn't buy one but drive far better than the Isuzu. Fair bit cheaper too.

Yes the earlier one's did. I still have one on the road. 2.9 merc engine.

None of the trucks are as good as they were. The D max’s have gearbox issues too, so I’ve been told. My Hilux has been treated for rust after we bought it. I wasn’t allowed to take it until it had been treated. Two of our 19 plate Hilux’s were taken off the road due to severely corroded chassis’s. Pal has a mk1 Hilux, chassis is solid. It’s never been treated and you can still see the factory white painted on numbers. The body is rusty !
