Exhaust sealant

Can anyone please recommend a decent flexible one please? @8ob @premmington @500e

I need to take the exhaust off of the Morgan but the joints are only just long enough and are prone to blowing, and as they also form part of the mounting system changing the clamp type isn’t an option.

Suggestions please…

I just use high temp flue sealant from tool station/screw fix. But only downwind of any catalyst as I seem to recall reading somewhere a long time ago it doesn't do them any good.

On the collector on my Caterham, some careful use of an expander tool got them tight enough to seal after a few runs.

I've also used it in a bead on both sides of a metal gasket, left to cure first, on the only joint in the system on my 106, right at the bottom of the manifold.

Also used extruded PTFE gasket tape, 3mm thick before fitting, between flanges in the system on my Lancia - 7 yrs leak free so far.

Firegum was (and still is) the assembly paste, Gun Gum was the bodge repair gloop of choice.

Gun gum was fire gum with added fibreglass I think.

Firegum was/is a pale, smooth paste. Gun gum was definitely more fibrous so yes, probably glass strands.
We used to use firegum in gun applicators, always used to squeeze the first dry bit onto our fingers and flick it at each other.

I will never be convinced that silicone products should appear anywhere near exhaust joints. Regardless of how good they might be, it screams "bodge artist" to me.

I can't recall the brand, I just order assembly paste from the factors. It arrives in a red and white toothpaste type tube. I can look Wednesday if you like?

I have had a look at some product images but can't see one that stands out as being the same. The Wurth product is the nearest in appearance but it is unlikely I would be paying for that!

Wurth do a red exhaust gasket sealer.

Brilliant stuff but word of warning get it on clothes etc and will not come off.
