Wives / Partners In The Workshop

no wife or girlfriend , consequently I have old tractors , trucks , lathes and shed full of "stuff" ,and do as I please ,which is good , but honestly speaking if I had met the right one I would nt have hesitated. truthfully seeing loads of guys paying the mortgauge on their previous wifes plus maintainance as well as paying for their current squeeze put me right off though , as well as being dad to several families which seemed so unfair to the children to me .

All mine does is put stuff that should be thrown away in it.

In our house stuff enters through the front door...lives in the house...moves to the loft...then gets put in the garage at which point I have to take it down the dump!

If the better half is in the garage I'm either required to fix something or I'm in trouble...so yea it's never good!

After divorcing my first wife, said I'll never get married again. I did, and it was the best thing that ever happened to me. The last three decades have been the happiest of my life. We have the same values and outlook on life. I have my interests, Dorothy has her interests, and we have overlapping interests we share that helps bond our relationship.

I do believe there is a right person out there for each of us. Its just fate if your paths happen to cross.

As far as the workshop goes, or renovating our project house, she helps me when I need a hand; and can turn a wrench when necessary. Conversely, I help her doing housework when she needs me to; so we've got a happy balance there.

After divorcing my first wife, said I'll never get married again. I did, and it was the best thing that ever happened to me. The last three decades have been the happiest of my life. We have the same values and outlook on life. I have my interests, Dorothy has her interests, and we have overlapping interests we share that helps bond our relationship.

I do believe there is a right person out there for each of us. Its just fate if your paths happen to cross.

As far as the workshop goes, or renovating our project house, she helps me when I need a hand; and can turn a wrench when necessary. Conversely, I help her doing housework when she needs me to; so we've got a happy balance there.

Mrs RWD can't stand the smell in my workshop, so I work hard to maintain it

The 5 year old granddaughter however, different matter!

I've seen the picture of her welding, She is a lot better than me! (although that's not hard)

Considering my Mrs is allegedly a fully trained and competent Mechanical Aircraft Technician, and a bit of a car nut, she's the most useless workshop assistant ever, and it's probably a good job she's a train driver now and doesn't have anything to do with the tools anymore. I'd rather struggle and do it myself than ask for her assistance, and she rarely shows any interest in what I'm up too.

Although in her defence, she's quite happy to leave me to whatever I'm doing, never questions any purchases, makes numerous brews throughout the day and keeps me in cake and biscuits, so I'm not complaining in the slightest. Shes a good one really, even if she cant wield a spanner to save her life.

Being married once removed.
This one's a cracker, got me through the breakdown and soldiered on probably, no actually better than I could have done.
She gets annoyed by her lack of skills/knowledge on some things she's never done or needed to do. But will help me with lots of lifting/moving/decorating and asks for advice on garden projects but knows I have no interest in gardening. I do love the results of her efforts and brings nature and beauty to our surroundings.
I'm the builder, she's the artist. When we had a shop, she was 7-time UK window dressing competition winner, run by Carlton Luggage.
She'd come up with an idea, "I'd like to hang the vanity cases in all colours inside a London Eye, build that for me."
... and off I'd go.
She'll come into my workshop once I've built it, and will respect it. I'll still be asked to help move this to here, and what do you think of this, which is great? We're working through this house project, slowly, there's no rush except for expiring before we've finished.

I think this was the window we won a weekend at The Charles V Hotel in Paris, we asked if we could change the venue and went to Tenerife for a week. I'd have upset too many Charles V Hotel guests, not taking their airs and graces well.

She sounds familiar, I used to know a Scottish woman that fit the same description...worked for GE aviation as an engineer but couldn't rewire a brake light on a Honda.

I agree. Apart from some girlfriends when I was young, it took three goes to find the right one. I guess it takes time to work out what is actually important to you, apart from the obvious.

We have both been married twice before, and will never marry. I told her from the outset that I don't cook, and will never be a "new man" but it all seems to work out. Like most horsey girls, she is not too houseproud (just as well given my latest time saving f**k up. Will do another post on that later) and is a great cook ....actually a bit of an insult, as she could have easily been a chef. I do all the washing up and most of the laundry. If reminded She is currently helping me dig house foundations.

Mind you, I don't actually know what she really thinks about it all

No, its my zen zone, its where I do my stuff. My wife tends to want to organize everything and boss people about and write out lists of jobs to tick off. And it just ends up being like being at work and leads to marital distress when I just ignore her and do something that I wanted to do instead. I go in there to avoid all that and escape mindless tv soap operas that she watches every evening religiously.
When she does come in, its very occasionally with cold beverages or to say she's doing lunch and she doesnt stay long.

if she s all good my advice would be don t ask , why risk upsetting the apple cart , but there again being a bloke what the hell do I know

HaHaHa....I have to deal with engineers like that on a weekly basis.....But they have paper
on the wall, so they know best (In their own mind)....

When I have been asked to hold something while someone else welds it, I happily agree.
And then.....when they strike the first arc, I start with "oooh yessss, i like it, more, more more....".

Usually don't get asked a 2nd time....

ive said a few times to otherhalf quite a few years ago why dont you just burn some money it would save the bother of getting it putting it in the way then putting it in a cupboard then out the back as theres no room then to a charity shop (at least they got some thing out of it) to be fair when young i was a bit like it

as we got older we have learnt that we have had dont realy need and also think am i going to use it
