Wives / Partners In The Workshop

My ex-wife sometimes puts in an appearance at the workshop, usually in the form of a mislaid spanner, a blown fuse, or some other paranormal manifestation.
More usually, however, it's as an inaccessible dead rat.

My OH is always willing to lend a hand, fetch & pass stuff if I'm somewhere awkward, hold things in place etc. She's not mechanically minded really though (& she knows it) so doesn't go "on the tools". Also tbf will turn up with a brew & snacks if I'm in the shed.

she wants to learn wood turning, I'm happy to teach her....
a very sensible lass......
ever since we've been together she has always said if another tool, machine will help u just buy it.....
I'm the one who justifies the expence....
My 70th birthday is long gone, said I wanted a decent bench saw to replace my Wadkin I had to sell.....
This turned up in a week......

Mine has absolutely no interest at all in what I make/fix/design/alter...if her friends want something fixed she will ask if I want to do it but thats about it. Likewise, I have little to no interest in the things she does in her spare time and I think thats part of why we work well together as we have found things we like to do together, but also have things we do on our own

My wife had obviously told her friend about my habit, she was visiting one day & popped into the shed to see me & said “ if you think you’re getting a kiss you’ve got another think coming” I didn’t fancy her anyway.

Before I got to the last half of your comment I was thinking "how lucky can a man be" but then I read the last half And thought how UN lucky can a man be.

I used to get this too, Once cost me a whole two days and a load of hassle. I told her to never do it again, and she doesn't.

Mine is great, she will help and lift move and hold stuff, no matter how dirty or heavy. Has no interest though, and HATES me "mansplaining" things. Doesn't care what I buy or spend (apart from the space taken up) as long as the bills are paid.

Equally, I don't care what she spends on pointless horsey stuff either. She is not a handbag, shoes, or spa weekends girl, so can't complain.

Just thinking
my daughter 34 (alone) toured Ozz for a year in a converted van/camper....over the 30,000klms....
sure there were a few probs but she went and bought spanners and a sockets set....we fixed the probs together via Face ache.....
now when she visits us she has a list of things we need to do together.....
September we'll replace a clutch and front brake pads on my Getz.....
she has a retired mechanic that'll do her car but she wants to understand whats going on....
should be more like em....

I had an ex gf who asked me to show her how to weld, she took to tig welding like a fish to water. One of her friends had a go one day and she took to it instantly aswell. Both of them were able to run beads within a few minutes.

Mine didn't really realise i was good with the Spanners until a good few months into our relationship as I was a tramper on hgvs at the time, then I got fed up with it and went back to driving a wrecker and the Sunday before I started i had to take my tool box to the yard and load the truck up, then bring it home ready to start my on call at midnight...took her with me and she got to see the 7 tool boxes, a half restored motorbike, parts of a boat, tractor and my mini lathe, workshop tooling and all sorts...then she realised why I was never worried about my discovery breaking down...but she still doesnt offer my services to anyone except family and even then she asks first and if its urgent she will tell them I'm busy and take it to a garage

Mrs Robo is the same, a good example was yesterday when I had to deliver our old lounge carpet (3m x 8m, luckily cut into 3 pieces) to one of her mates stables (the carpets are used upside on the yard) now her mate has a Range Rover quite capable of picking up and carrying the carpet, but no "good old hubby" can deliver it

my ex was scared of spiders so no mrs in the shed
however the ex wanted to do stuff to a degree and i was banned from advising or helping her
the one thing i will say when we moved she would be hands on

my 2 children was in the shed more with me at a young age including passing me tools under the car but that was due to me being a single parent

though my daughter has been in the shed often

if they are prepared to learn i will teach them dosnt matter if they are a girl or boy, lady or man
