M300 S1X tool post holder for 24mm/32mm boring bar

A friend posted down a boring bar for me. It's just a smudge under 24mm diameter but came with a 32mm split block to clamp it into a "standard" tool holder.

According to lathes.co.uk it's a Dickson S1X QCTP (@RobCox can probably verify). 73mm cube so plenty of height available.

Question is - anyone know of a holder that would fit it off the shelf or am I going to be forced down the route of turning down the boring bar a bit to fit into the smaller holders? I did come across one that would handle 22mm.

Rather than turning the bar can you get a cheapy holder and weld a block to it?

32mm is a good size as you have a split block and can make adaptors for anything smaller. Its also useful for holding work items for milling and notching for example, also holding a straight collet chuck is another use.

I feel Im getting better at tig. My feeding is still rubbish, burning my fingers. This little wp17 torch is not doing bad at 180A
I did 2 or 3 runs on each side to get enough filler in.

Please tell me, what is the uglyness by the arrow? Did I dip the tungsten or is it dirt?

The selfie/welding light helped.

The 20mm shank of this and the other holder still needs to be chopped off, might grinder that.

And first chips facing some bar, 150mm stickout and no problem.

Amazon used to have blocks quite cheap, SBHA25-32 but theres none on there now, may be some on ebay or temu? First number is shank and second is the bore size.

A quick check on the groups.io site, Harrison lathes thread agrees that the standard toolpost you have is indeed an S1. I'm afraid I cant help as to whether the holder in question will fit. I never used that post, I swapped to a wedge type from Arceurotrade as the holders were simpler to make.

I have a few T1/S1 toolposts and over twenty standard holders.
These are mostly genuine but a few copies too.
Most of the holders will hold a 22 and a bit mm (7/8" imperial?) tool, but one is exactly 24mm.
This is probably a copy rather than an original Dickson.

Thanks for the comments so far. I was just a little surprised that all S1 toolpost ls appear to max out at about 20mm give or take a few mm. On this paticular setup there's a lot of unused height on the QCTP which could comfortably accommodate taller tooling.

My main priority is sorting the 6x6 out so if there had been a holder readily available I'd have bought it to make the boring bar useful straight away as I've got a job for it. However it is currently playing second fiddle to the chassis for the 6x6.

I did come across that but I wondered if <24mm (mic'd it at 23.54) is a bit too much of a difference. I could wrap some thin shim stock around it I guess.

That is a decent suggestion, I'm going to be keeping an eye out for some more holders as they would be useful anyway. The split is just a block with a hole bored through it and one side slit so as the tool holder retaining screws clamp down on it it tightens up.
