Chrome.spray paint ?

Anybody found this good to use.

I was.thinkig on a clear.coat aswell on top aswell to protect it

It's been about for some.time
I have used someothers in the past and its been crap. This is not cheap but looks good in the videos.

When I've looked at these in the past the reviews of sprays haven't been that good. Maybe this one will be better - it does recommend a black base which I think seems to be key to a good result. What does get good reviews is Alclad chrome paint which modellers use. It's just in pots for brush painting but you could do small trim bits with it where you're touching in the line of chrome on a door handle or dash for example. Too expensive to spray and probably not up to weather exposure on exterior window trim.

I have never used that one, but the 'chrome' aerosol I have used didn't like being overcoated with clearcoat, it lost its brightness and 'chrome' effect. Maybe that one is designed to be overcoated with clear.

I have used Mipa Vichrom and if that is used with a black base it will give a kinda dark chrome look (I used with silver base to give a very bright silver with no metallic flake visible). This is only available to be sprayed in sprayguns as far as I know.

Another option might be chrome effect powder coating. Ive seen spoked bike wheel rims done. Looked ok.

I’ve tried two different chrome sprays in the past. Both looked good when first sprayed on, both looked like silver paint after drying.
I tried clear coat over the top of one, it just turned it black.

There was a guy on YouTube who compared a number of different types of Chrome effect paints. His recommendation was the one made by Revell. I recall it stood out from the rest by some margin (actually looked like chrome rather than being overpriced silver paint!)

It needs to rattle can i am afraid the item/s cant be removed.

I found the same a good few years ago, once it was clear coated it went either black or dull. I do remember one saying it can be clear coated and it went dull.

The Brevel does worry me with being for external use on a car. But if it can be clear coated then that will ;protect it. Ill see about getting some and trying it out. I dont mind spending the money to get it done.

Aldi have spray cans of crome paint in at the moment. £3.99 worth a try ?

Chrome paint is a subject talked to death model building circles. Universal consensus to ALL chrome paints is spray them in one very thin coat and never overcoat with clear, as this will turn them silver. Most need a dark glossy colour base coat. The one exceptional product here is Revell chrome spray which doesn’t require a base and looks the most chrome like of them all.
None of them stand up to wear and are best used for decorative purposes where they won’t be handled so painting bumpers on your MGB is out of the question. Instead, it’s ideal for restoring the reflector inside a tail lamp - the kind that will be covered with a lens.
There is also chrome self adhesive film from Bare Metal as used by model builders. This conforms to intricate shapes and is microscopic thin - think gold leaf! However it’s for decorative purposes as well, but would probably stand up to handling a bit better than chrome paint.
