Nvq for cscs card

So basically im wanting to get my blue cscs card, have looked at the alternative route on cscs website and theyve said that their partnership has collapsed with the authorized cscs issuer, he has told me that even with a general welding/fab nvq i wont be able to get my cscs as they want positions etc on the nvq, but obviously the nvq doesnt include coding which has left me at a dead end, ill be able to get coded by the company but wont be able to aquire a cscs alongside it has anyone has similar issues or can direct me the quickest and easiest route to go please

not welding related at all, but when i did my blue CPCS for crane and slinger signaller my NVQ assessor was telling me that city and guilds were starting a red/blue card to match CPCS/CSCS and NPORS, so may be a shout to try them and see if they can shed any light.

The ridiculous thing is how easy it is to get these tickets. You get all these pillocks on FB going on about CSCS being superior to NPORS but reality is you can get any of them if you know where to look. Half the trainers could do the job they are training for

case in point...i got blue carded for cpcs a60 and a40...after 8 weeks of having red card...all because of the name i was working for and his association with CPCS as being an authorised training provider...

Wouldve been the provider of the cscs and coded test

They are saying for a cscs i need to be coded in certain positions, ie cscs wont accept a nvq without a coded position, only nvq i have is pipefitting which wont cut it if i show up as a welder with a fitter card

The whole reason to go to them was to do the coding alongside the cscs test now it seems ill have to do a course of some sort alongside 2 tests for a cscs then do my coding which is just long winded and alot more expensive

Without wishing to demean the CSCS, or any other 'board' that requires some effort to gain a qualification for, I had a Platinum CSCS card for Site Management (it was an MOD requirement for contractors) and I can barely tie my own shoe laces some days. iirc I read a H&S book that took about an hour, sat an online multiple choice test (40 question perhaps?) and got a card

I think you can grunt in any language these days, I don't think speaking English is a prerequisite.

based off some of the sites i go to, you dont have to be able to speak at all to get a card...watched 1 guy doing an induction with a translator...the translator answered all the questions while the guy wanting to get on site played on his phone...they never spoke to each other

Since last year you now need a nvq to be able to have the "welder" on the card like ive got a pipefitters nvq itll say pipefitter if i was to get one now with that

You've looked at getting the CSCS card directly yourself then...
Plenty of companies trying to take your money for what is a very simple and cheaper process to do directly.
Look on the CSCS card finder section, it lists relevant quals etc..

I guess if yours is a mechanical bias pipefitter qual, getting a welding one may be harder, hence proving it with an industry accredited cert rather than the nvq route.

Guess it depends on the site you plan on going to...do you need it to say welder specifically? Most take a copy of the card and send you on. Could probably have Seamstress on it something and they'd not care, you've still done the same H&S test as the welder with 20 codings.


Are you doing any specific codings for the job You need the cscs card for? If you are, it makes sense to do them and use them, rather than a random bsen9606 3mm fillet or whatever. Not sure CSCS know too much about the specifics of codings and positions tbh.

Ive looked and generally it looks like itll say skilled worker on the card not welder, ive seen jobs stating the cscs needs to say welder, this is only for places like hinkley and bigger industrial sites, although im currently in a oil refinery with no cscs or ccnsg which i find odd, generally im looking to go for overhead and vert up, upto 20mm which will cover me for all positions ive been told but obviously this will be 8 different tests as i want to do lap and butt but also have the thickness too all to en 9606, which is the reason why im trying to find the fastest route, the website i posted before was a alternative route via the cscs website but no longer a option, unless there is any company out there that issues cscs cards rather than cscs directly, ive seen various places but how am i supposed to know their legit and not just there as a scam, im not personally aware if its cscs that issues the cards or another body can as cscs's website doesnt have a list of approved issuer page
