cutting fluid?

anyone reccomend a certain brand or type of cutting fluid?

up til now ive been using anchor lube as only really been drilling, or tapping by hand, but now with the lathe id like an oil as well rather than a paste. used miracut in the past but remember it to be very smokey

i use rocol, its the best but the price is eye watering got mine half price otherwise it would have been a cheaper make probably just as good without the brand name

Suds pump on my lathe uses whatever is festering in the tank
Water soluble with inhibitor in the lathe, does everything else I have including the bandsaw,cold saw, drill and mill..

I have some tygris molybdenum stuff that works fine but wasn't cheap. Unfortunately I bought 5 litres of the stuff so kinda have to use it
Best cutting fluid IMO is the foaming stuff from HMT, the aerosol format makes it super useful and the foam stays in one place far better than a liquid.
Once my tygris stuff runs out I'll probably only ever buy HMT aerosols.

as for suds pump, thats still in the process of being cleaned...old boy that used this lathe before me wasnt fussy about where the saw dust went and i can only assume a lot got into the suds tank and he then decided to cut some metal and run the coolant...pick up is clogged with what smells like maple, the coolant pipe is clogged with something that smells like oily pine and the tank was hafl full with shavings.

it will be up and running again soon though as i do like the thought of having coolant for larger projects and heavier cuts.

I haven’t tried many but Rocol is pretty good - sticks well as a grease type consistency and soon turns liquid enough when it heats up- whilst also smelling like you’re machining something
There are cheaper alternatives - but the cost is soon forgotten and it lasts well..

Try CT-90

I can't afford Rocol and it seems to work OK on the occasion that I machine steel. (I use WD40 for aloominum.)

I use Rocol, and for cutting threads in aluminium, Lacquer Thinner.

I use the same stuff. Squirt it or slap on with a brush. Cools, lubricates and washes swarf away. Recommended.

I concur though use a different brand. For drilling etc I use what ever cheap or spare oil I have, usually SUTO.

I use Crowncut 810 cutting oil on my harrison, It is good stuff & the lathe stays clean & shiny. Only trouble with straight oils is they can be smokey & i rig up an extractor pipe if im doing any long sessions which isnt often. Its had the same stuff in the tank for nearly ten years.
