I know some people on here were running home CCTV servers, mainly using Blue Iris.
I recently got scared by the leccy bills caused by having a PC turned on 24/7, especially with the horrific CPU usage that CCTV causes. I junked the old i5 CCTV PC and bought a new, modern, fanless, integrated server from Ali Express for £180. It's cut the power usage down to less than half and should pay for itself in no time. And it's silent
I also took the opportunity to junk Blue Iris as the cost of updates builds up over time. I've installed Linux and Zoneminder instead. Linux has improved a lot since I last used it, though it still took more effort to set up over Windows. I found Zoneminder is no more complex than Blue Iris, so not sure what people are complaining about with it.
So all that is working fine. But I've now come across Frigate. This is another open source Linux CCTV software, but this one is heavily AI based. It fully uses AI to identify movement and start recording, making it far more accurate. It's also more actively developed and modern than Zoneminder. The catch is that it needs AI chips to be installed into the PC, and they cost £60 each and each one can only manage four cameras, so I'd need two.
I'm tempted to give it a go. I'm wondering if anyone else has already tried it ?
