Ebay is still far cheaper than a regular auction house for both buyers and sellers.

Its also far more convenient for me as a buyer as I just buy something and it arrives at my door.

It's also still about the only place you can buy 'not mainstream' products at decent prices. Not may places you can buy 2× M24 stainless socket cap bolts for under £10.
Plenty of suppliers that will sell me a box of 100 at only 50p each but they'll have a £15 delivery charge and require me to register an account and so on...

I buy niche stuff pretty often on eBay, just recently sold a few things and have to say it was all pretty painless.

Also been ordering Amazon Prime stuff next day delivery and surprised 3 of 4 things delivered by RM next day.

For me im home band so collection with royal mail is good for me . Just a week or so ago royal mail starting charging 30p for home collection. So I just added the extra 30p to postage. But the new rules means I can't have collection from my house anymore. ?

Not many choices left.

I have deselected evri so buyers have to select royal mail instead. Print off the royal mail label via the eBay website and then go to the royal mail website and book collection using the tracking code. I've done it about 4 times since eBay changed to "simple" delivery. Costs 30p each time. It's just a pain in the bum doing the booking.

I never sell anything on there, but Ebay, Amazon, Aliexpress etc. are all useful sites. If I want something quick, I'll usually check Amazon first, but if time isn't a concern, I'll use any/all.

The convenience of them all is just so, well, convenient.

Wow a whole 30p for someone to collect a parcel when you'd probably spend more in fuel/time dropping it off, hell a cheap bar of chocolate is £1 and you still have to go buy that yourself.

For the service that's provided royal mail is underappreciated compared again other delivery companies.

I think your missing the point, it takes a large letter using a 1st class tracked service up to £3.90, when your sending 5 or more letters/parcels a day it adds up on top of the postage price increases we've had already
I've never bad mouthed the royal mail service but it is getting expensive

The next laugh is don’t ever try list a slitting saw or a saw blade. Blade or slitting sets off all the alarm bells. God forbid. Oh no. You are violating community standards. The only way you can now list them is if you use age verified postage at twice the price! Wunch of bankers….

1kg large letter is £2.7 for tracked 48 (+0.3 for collection), unless you're sending time sensitive documents you don't need to buy 24hr delivery for some 2nd items sold on ebay.

Yes, but it's still cheaper than a 20 mile trip to the Post Office. That's not because they've closed the nearest one either. Also I like the RM because of the universal service obligation.

Technically, it's not ridiculous. It's merely a situation created in trying to adhere to laws. Rock & a hard place type situation for them.

You might need to investigate more local options. Such as shops that take Evri, DHL etc. parcels. I discovered a while ago the my local Londis also takes RM packages. The pluses being that it's on the way to my morning coffee and the service is far better.

Most, if not all, the couriers list locations of their drop-off points on their webistes or apps.

As far as I'm aware, RM don't. Which is why I was pleasantly surprised when I found that my Londis did.

I've the problem the other way, there are no non RM drop off shops on the islands. And that includes the POs. Nor are the local couriers reliable enough to collect stuff. the latter may have changed now there's a different subcontractor
