The absurdity of age verification when I have held one of my eBay accounts for 20+ years is a bit daft but I am trying to get that sorted.

Problem is they want me to provide a credit card and I do not have one, do not want one. Plus that would take time and I want this thing now.

I do not trust myself. If I can't afford to buy something outright, I won't buy it. I certainly don't want to option to spend more than I can afford. Been there, done that.

There is also the issue of security. How is it more secure to have yet another avenue into your finances, especially when it has to be available online?

I may yet have to acquire one and it is almost inevitable that the powers that be will insist everybody has to use a centralised digital currency in the not too distant future anyway...

No trusting yourself involved, you are not taking credit because it is automatically cleared, just like a Debit card.

That is the beauty of a credit card. Under Section 75 CCA, the bank is jointly and severally liable for the purchase complying with the applicable laws, such as the Consumer Rights Act 2015. It is therefore far more secure as a payment method than any other. Fraudulent transactions if you have not been negligent are the bank's problem, not yours.

Well you are cutting off your nose to spite your face if you don't have a credit card. Just make sure on the application that you tick the "full payment" rather than "minimum payment" which is the default.
Bear in mind that many cards have other benefits like cash back or Air Miles etc which also cost you nothing.

Section 75 protects you on tangible purchases between £100 and £30k. EVEN IF YOU ONLY PAY £1 DEPOSIT on the card, you are still protected for the full value. I have had success on lower amounts but that is up to the bank's policies rather than the law.

Another point is that it will improve your credit rating, which can be important to those looking for mortgages etc.

Glad it's sorted, I can't help but I feel your pain.

I spent the last 2 days trying to buy something from Amazon (even spending an hour with a friend last night asking them to order it on their account and I'd pay). More time today - eventually fixed by using a reserve bank account that's never been needed in the past 4 years.

Mum has finally got fed up with her electric lawn mower. She saw a no name cordless one in one of those catalogues you get through the post and asked me to buy it.

I did some searching online and for very little more dosh I could buy a makita cordless mower. It was body only but I have plenty of batteries and chargers.

Best price was on Amazon but they will not post to my address.
They have a blanket policy of not posting cordless batteries to NI but the mower ad has in big writing 'DOES NOT INCLUDE BATTERIES OR CHARGER'!
Bought the mower elsewhere but got stung for extra postage due to being in NI!
Then DHL state delivery on the 2nd, Friday but it is still not here!

Crazy isn't it. I have exactly the same problem with vape accessories. I can't buy replacement coils because "tobacco products" are age restricted.

You'd think our little island was in the South Pacific to some sellers and not 12 miles from mainland UK (at its closest point).

I buy just about everything on mine, fuel, shopping etc, pay it off on my phone app every few days so it doesn’t shock me.

I always have a few quid in cash in my wallet for small businesses though.
