Shell or chassis Dozer

We have had a few discussions regarding Dozers on the forum, indeed there is a thread here somewhere where I recounted my story of building one back in the day. Well yesterday I wend by a pals body shop as he has kindly offered me the use of some of his facilities. While we were talking, one of the guys there was busy tacking what appeared to be rings to a sill, I was intrigued. Still more when he slid a post on a base plate over and attached the air line. Suffice to say the following pictures show the tool in action:








This thing sticks to the floor like nothing I have seen, apparently they started to drag a three series BMW across the floor one time.

Then there was this little spot welder he was attaching the rings on with:



Sorry about the colour adjustment Anyhow, this thing has it's own "gun" which will attach all sorts of gizmo's one of which is a slide hammer God only knows what the kit costs.

The tower is called the Airfix Draw Aligner and it looks like the post on it's own is about a grand then you are going to need the other bits which add up to about £300-ish.
The GYSpot 2700 is around the £700 mark so none of this is out of sight but a lot of money to do one car.

I was curious about that. Had a look online, it's basically a big sucker pad with an air powered vacuum pump.

A dent repair man did my friend's sill like that with a stud welder and slide hammer, looked easy enough and the studs twisted off after pulling the dent out.

I’ve seen that done, a complex dent had a dozen or more studs welded on and a guy moved about tugging on different studs with his slide hammer until the shape was just right. Quite impressive to watch.

Less cumbersome than a body dozer , less room required, but probably a flatter floor I suspect, but if you can hold very large double glazing unit and lift them high up with a crane with vacuum, body panel pulling .....

Yep, light panel damage is now the main body shop business ...profit per job is much higher than on heavier damaged vehicles (unless they're 'classics')

I am quite sure we all have, in the beginning it was drill a hole, then a self tapper then the slide hammer. But oh how so much easier and faster with the dedicated kit.

Coincidently, Mrs RWD's Fiesta is in the body shop having just this done on the NSF sill after hitting a bollard in Asda's car park!

That's a new wing by the way and the door also had to be replaced. But of course, it was the bollard's fault!
