Gasless wire

In the process of fixing my mig, with a view to chucking a spool of gasless in it.

Will likely be used for tacking up quick little parts, brackets and generally stuff that doesn't need to be pretty. Got a little project starting tomorrow to make some viking era sconce lamps that would be a lot easier to tack up with a mig

Haven't bought gasless wire for quite a while now, anyone used the 'impax' brand from screwfix?

Pretty sure I used to get SIP from halfords but screwfix is 2 mins away, halfords is half hour away on a good day

After bad experiences I won't use "generic" wire for the FCAW-S process...

Personally I would go for Bohler Diamondspark 52RC as an inner shield wire, or ESAB Coreshield as a second choice.

If you have to use 0.9mm (rather than 1.1mm or 1.2mm) Lincoln NR-211-MP is the only reputable option widely sold in the UK to my knowledge (happy to be corrected on that).

I have no forge, anvil or any blacksmithing tools...or the experience to do any of this...and im not investing in that stuff for 4 pieces i will likely never make again, welding will be just fine

Update on the impax wire...seems ok...smidge more spatter than I'd like, but it does come off with a knotted brush in the grinder quite easilly. Heavy light brown dusty coating on top of the slag, more than I've ever noticed before but all in all, half decent.

Tweaked the settings and the coating doesn't seem as bad now...basically running flat out here, 195 amp mig on 5mm steel.

Cleans up pretty nicely though

200mm run, inside corner 5mm flat bar, first bead after getting the mig working again and putting the wire in

Spatter on the bottom seemed a bit more stubborn, flap disc would sort it. For a cheap wire it's not too bad though. Had to travel a bit slower than I'd like, but I was on the max settings so slower speed was the only tool left to get a half decent bead

I like the Lincoln Innershield NR211 but it's not cheap.
