Hi Guys, I thought I'd let you know about my first experience of Arc welding. One of the Engineering lecturers at the college I work at offered to give me a quick intro lesson to Arc welding during my lunch break yesterday. I jumped at the chance and was really excited having never touched Arc before. It's amazing how much easier it is when somebody explains everything clearly and then shows you proper techniques. Gary is an awesome teacher and I was laying down good looking and strong welds within 10 minutes, and know exactly what I have to work on to improve my technique.
Seeing as we had about half an hour left, he offered to give me some pointers on MIG welding. I really didn't realise how much difference there was between a hobby mig and an industrial spec unit - suddenly all of my welds, which have been hit and miss on my little 150 hobby unit, felt and looked awesome in comparison. Just something as simple as the torch made a huge difference.
I can't wait for another lesson and the opportunity to weld again in a "controlled" environment like that with booths, extractors, isolators, decent kit etc. I'm now on the hunt for an arc welder!
