Topic is regarding Vodex welding rods, im particually fond of why these are called vodex as when i was learning they was just standard rods or 6013, do the vodex have some sort of different welding capability then normal 6013's or are they the same?
this is regarding some work im doing on some plating/patching work on beams and columns, although ive expressed concern with the work im doing its not being listened to ie im welding the longitude of the beam vs the transverse also i know plating should be bolted not welded but im just doing what ive been told to do.
so heres the question i know it will probably hold up this is for a patch for the top of a beam that has significant pitting, the flange is 20mm, pitting is around 5-8mm in some places, the piece already has a 20mm patch so im wanting to patch the rest with 20mm to suit what is there, will 5mm vodex rods do the job in this instance as ive looked at the impact values etc and i can only see a small difference between 7018 H4 and Vodex rods.
the reason im asking is because the stores where i work are unable to order in 5mm low hy's but have some 5mm vodex laying about, so im stuck with either using 4.2mm running about 50 million runs or using 5mm vodex, as said before this wouldnt be for anything major its just a patch to stop further pitting on the beam to keep the plant operational
