Drummond shaper

I know I said that that winch would be my first project, but this came my way last year, & seeing as it's currently hogging my bench top, in a somewhat sorry state, it became my first project.



The handle & arm have already been in the vat, so they're now looking a bit better than they did.










The beeswax/graphite mix will be the finish being used on this.

I'd always thought they were a bit thin on the ground as most would have been scrapped or skipped over the years, but when I referenced its age on the lathes.co.uk site, via the serial, it appears they may not have actually made/sold a vast amount of them. Only around 1000 or so, if I recall, if the serials listed on there are an indicator.

Strangely mine has no maker's badge or serial number. I guess they were removed when someone slapped the hammerite on. But I'm sure it's a Drummond.

Post a photo of it. Compare the two photo's. Their overall design remained pretty static. If not Drummond, we can play guess the shaper.

mine is the polygon hand shaper but after some digging i found that you can convert them to being electric powered

Similar setup with a top handle? What setup for conversion? There's a slight possibility I may adapt, (though it'd have to be revertible), this one day.

That top plate has never seen a pot or pan as yet, but it has other uses too.

look into perfecto shaper that mechanism can be used with ours as the head base slide stays still

has been degreased, cleaned, & is now in the vat.

The top slide/head has had a coating of wax, so that's done now. The mix doesn't darken it substantially. I have considered adding lamp black to the mix, for that purpose, but I originally made that wax/graphite mix for changewheels, to both protect them & provide lubrication, so I'd prefer not to. Simply started applying this mix to other things too as it's an easy finish to work with, & it takes quite well on cast.

I love this stove.



Not one of the uses I planned for when I got it, but so handy for finish drying parts once cleaned.

That's the table cleaned, depainted & derusted. I always try & leave a bit of the original paint knocking about, instead of scraping/scrubbing it all off, just incase anyone's curious in the future. Appears this machine would've been the typical black.

Nope. It's a tin baking tray. It's just sitting there "temporarily" for the last 2 years.
