Sliding Mitre Saw recommendations

My rule is never lend out a sliding mitre saw...only takes a bit of rough treatment to thro things out.

I still have a soft spot for my Evolution 255mm single mitre chop saw. Early Rage 3 I think.

Not great if you move it around and takes faffing most of the time unless your making "sheds" or studwork. Useless for cutting through housings.

However, want to cut a scaffold pole, no problems. With the diamond blade I've cut 10mm off the face of bricks to make slips.

I love as much as I hate it.

I have to say that the exception is the proper industrial ones.

My DeWalt has been through hell and back and is still in good condition

I have the same...the early orange one. It's done a lot and does all my rough work. Built all sorts and still going strong.

I only got the festool when I was fitting a kitchen...it cuts foil covered mouldings like factors cuts and I needed a good finish... It's the same with their plunge rail saw....their stuff is lovely for fine finish work I think.

Makita LS1219

Best Mitre saw I've ever owned.
I've had Bosch, Elu, Smaller Makita and Dewalt. Duel rails to the front means the saw sits up against the wall, small footprint.
Dust collection is always a problem with Mitre saws, but the Makita is one of the best.

Lots of Dewalt comments on here and my friend who's a carpenter also uses one so took a chance on this yesterday as a - I was passing and b - if I didn't get something all I would do is procrastinate forever as it seems to be a habit of mine.

Not sure it's up to fine carpentry but I enjoy my low cost Evolution saw. I like the fact it is multi material and have found this really useful.

Likewise, my 110V Evolution has done me proud for what must be coming up for 10 years now.

It’s not heavily used, and I certainly don’t produce fine carpentry or cabinets, but for a general use site saw it’s met my needs for general framing, architrave, dado trunking, etc.

I’ve never changed the original blade and still churns through wood, pvc and the occasional Aluminium profile.

Do you have a table saw? If so then you’ll find that 90% of what you currently use the table saw for is is faster, safer and easier to cut with a mitre saw (especially if you have a stand).
Even more so if you ever need to do anything at angle other than 90 degrees.

(If you don’t have a table saw either, ignore me!)

Really? Your metalworking addiction seems to be to fuel (literally) your wood chopping addiction at the moment. Get a big enough chop saw and it'll handle those lumps of ash easily.

I have Elektra Beckum mitre saw, induction motor, 300mm blade and lightweight in comparison to any offerings on the market bar makita !
If I was to buy again it’s a makita double bevel 12” blade as it’s the lightest of them all and it’s ideal for skirtings, architrave, parquet flooring and general building !
For roofing and Truss work I would choose their larger brothers especially considering how portable they are.
I had Dewalt and they are bloody heavy !
For cabinet making and if you’re feeling like splashing on a festool chop saw then by all means !

It would need to be huge. Far bigger than my Rage 2. Even my 36" bandsaw isn't really big enough. Welsh ash is bombproof

Get your existing blades sharpened. It should be around £10 per blade. Two of those are £50 Freud blades and will cut better and outlast those cheap blades many times over.

Where do I look to send them? The guy I bought it from kinda suggested sharpening was similar cost to a new blade.

Have you a local independent hardware shop? Ask in there, many offer a sharpening service. They send off your blade and you get it a week or 2 later.
Thats what I do, cost is usually per tooth but around £10 per blade.

You could send them somewhere, try google or ask on here.
