To wrap this one up, just ordered a complete set of nuts for £14, so will get busy with the MIG when they arrive.

The added bonus is, it'll also replace the original ones that have that daft stainless cap over the nut which swells up as the nut underneath starts to rust. A few were already quite a tight fit on the socket.

The code for Ford locking wheel nuts is usually a card in the locking wheel nut bag, which lots of people throw out and just keep the key.
There is no record on the Ford system as to what is fitted to any specific vehicle.

Some dealers might have a master set of wheel nut keys, but they're far more likely to have a generic removal tool, as stripped/rounded/seized nuts are a far more common problem, which a master set won't solve.

Those stainless caps are hopeless things. I had exactly the same issues with Mrs Miller’s SMax a couple of weeks back.

Soon sorted it out tho!

15/16" . I don't know if it identified as thin wall or not.

I found out about those caps when my impact wrench tore them off.
What horrible things they are, they could truly stuff you at the side of the road.

And in traditional style I opened the bonnet yesterday and found the nut "key" sitting in the engine bay

Are locking wheel nuts really necessary? I know in years gone by alloys would get knicked and put on cars with steel rims, seems to be a thing of the past and would they really stop anybody that wanted them.

That's why I replace the locking nuts with plain ones when I get a new car.

TBH, there's not much around now that doesn't already have alloy wheels. I don't boubt there are still scumbags out there that will nick them because they have better tyres on them but as you say @8ob, locking wheel nuts won't stop them.

Following the theme does anybody know where I can get a hubcap key for a 90s Renault Espace?

The car came with a dead / dying engine from a nice couple. A week later I noticed the locks, seller says the key should be in the boot but I can’t find it.. it looks like a simple symmetrical 3 pin extractor so is diy’able if needed.

That would have been a little plastic T-key. Vauxhall used the same setup for a while.
Hammer and punch soon removes them.
