shop traders moan about internet prices loosing them buisness i priced some controll gear up from wholesalers for a job £60 each a well known electrical firm on ebay 20 quid just priced a thermostat and a thermal fuse of an electrical wholesaler 60 quid a google search took 5mins . can get the items delivered 30 quid how can that profit margin be justifed

My theory is that most traditional based suppliers like the example you mention are lazy and complacent. They just don't check on their competitiveness against other sources.
I've had the same experience with town electrical wholesalers, they can't justify their price and can't be ar5ed to !! So, they will eventually go out of business. 15 years ago I predicted the end of the high street, and it's beginning to happen, the Internet will rule eventually and I say it can't happen soon enough !

mail order parking tickets they already exist only problem is you dont actually order them they just turn up uninvited

I wonder when similar things will happen with consumer items?

It seems no-one has really twigged that the supermarkets are very happy to have offers at the moment of 50% discount, 75% discount etc, but they're still making money! Just shows what their normal margins must be like.

Some of these are loss leaders. Just noticed Netto have removed a load of BOGOFFS prior to Christmas!

Trouble is with Internet shopping is waiting for delivery and the reliability of carriers. It's no good for emergency purchases.

Often I would sooner jumo in my car and maybe pay a bit more so I don't have to be in for the next few days in case a delivery turns up.

yeah one of my orders was a 5kva altenator for a diesel genny 1st one arrived courier had dropped it so straight on the phone to supplier they sent another and guess what courier dropped it again.

so all that glitters is not gold

lol try buying from screwfix nearly everything comes in kitform after postage

I use a lot of online sellers..... only had 2 items delivered damaged,,,, & both sorted within 48h.

retail margins are typicaly trade +100%, the one that always gets me is cable....£400/roll(trade price)-97.5% discount.........

me mate chucked his tools in back of his van on friday night. punctured a full can of foam filler had to dig his tools out on the monday morning ive seen nowt like it

what gets me is plumbing stuff, buy rads / boiler / sanitary ware etc online for discount price and it gets delivered by the local plumb centre. go into plumb centre for a price and they cant get anywhere near it.

That applies to a lot of stuff, Comet have lower prices for some stuff ordered online. I think they're trying to discourage people from using their stores.
