And a plug for Tiger Sheds - https://www.tigersheds.com/ - I've got three of theirs in my garden and have recommended to friends and neighbours, and all have been satisfied.

Well priced, tons of options including thickness of wood / security, easy to deal with and fast delivery. Helped a neighbour put up a shed last year from some other vendor and it was extremely poor quality compared to the Tiger options, despite him paying £3k for it!

I bought a couple of these from screwfix to go in the new shed, they are currently in the garage completely full of stuff from the old shed and it's still not empty!

Another for Tiger sheds - bought mine as overflow storage when I moved into this house 15 yrs ago. It got a decent felt on the roof rather then the dog-house stuff it came with, and I slather ducksback wood stuff over it every year or so. Still seems to be in very good condition.

I think an important thing is getting it clear of the ground and splashback when it rains - plenty of room under it for air flow, cat hiding places etc - its on railway sleepers a good way off the ground. A shed alongside it, admittedly bought second hand of unknown parentage, is sat on blocks at just about ground level - rotting well around the bottom few inches and floor.

c if u can get it delivered a week or so early, then u can treat ALL sides of the wood a couple times.....
that'll slow the rot down..

Technically you need to be farming, Ag or rail but you can order it online by the 45 gallon drum. We never had to prove we were any of the approved users even though we have a holding number and a working farm.

Wood for me, I've moved plastic storage sheds and boxes after 4-5 years and they can be fragile. At 10 its probably best to not move them at all.
Meanwhile the wood beam garage at my other place is at least 25 years old, survived a block and tackle to take engines out of cars and hasnt been creosoted for 15 years at least and I'm contemplating moving it over here as a overflow and putting a cheap tin shed in its place to sell the property. It has a course of breezeblock to keep the wood off the ground and a concrete slab base though.

i wouldnt buy a pinelap shed or some of the other sheds as they are only 1" thick batterns

would i buy the framework and build my own up, yes

now i know alot of people wouldnt use metal sheds as i am one of them however if built with insulation in mind they dont drip and thats starts at the very first build of one

it makes no difference if its a wood frame or steel framed building

There are lots of plastic sheds across Amazon and Temu etc at very low prices. Something around £500 for a decent size one. They can't all be scams surely?

It's worth reading the reviews on the Amazon one.

The word 'flimsy' comes up a lot, but I liked this one:

"So less than 1 year old and a very strong wind this is what is left."

Or this one:

"I would say anyone living in Europe who occasional experience inclement weather , should avoid this shed like the plague."

the above just shows that if the shed has no decent pillars/post they are crap from the very start

if they had decent proper framework that you can screw too then they would last until the plastic becomes brittle

Sweeping generalisation that is incorrect, as usual. Buying a shed with battens thicker than 1" is perfectly straightforward. Even the (not great, non Tiger) shed that I put up a few months ago for my mate had 44mm battens.

@skotl is to blame for me getting one from Tiger sheds 8 x 12. and I'm glad , the service and quality of the shed has been great, good configurable options as well like windows, door, latching options etc.

Mrs got a blinding deal at some garden exhibition, she has a 12x14, 6 windows, and 45mm thick wood panels and floor!
2k fitted, they must have been mental!

Also have a 3x8 by 6' high tin shed, mainly for garden stuff, galvanised sheet jobbie, the doors are an **** to open because the base is not mm flat, but it always stays dry, I would not discount them depending on your needs

15 years ago,I bought a crappy cheapo for £35 from a sawmill that was clearing out stock,it was wafer thin but my plan was to suspend it at each corner on 40 box posts with baseplates from 10mm plate where I hammered in 12 mm spikes,I had it all galvanised,then each shed side got creosote dipped in a huge tank,the shed sides hang 300 above ground,so obviously limited security,it’s as good as the day I built it is in an exposed location,y
yet has survived countless westerly storms year after year and looks respectable,I think the most durable feature is there’s no fixing holes through the flimsy frame,it just captured and retained via pressed galvanised cleats.

I'm looking at replacing my shed this year which will just be used for storage of tools, materials, stationary engines etc. and am looking at a couple of options.

So what does the collective think? or any other suggestions.

A small Transit fridge body and clad it to look like a shed. Normally get change out of £400 , insulation is normally 100mm ish thick, decent floor,water tight, condensation proof and easy to heat. Just thoughts
