Used an ‘easy out’ today and it worked.

Had a M8 bolt shear level with the surface today on my alloy engine.
The location was awkward and the chance of getting a welder in would have been impossible.
After my last escapade which stated with a sheared bolt, progressed to a sheared bolt with a broken drill bit in it, then I added a broken ‘easy out’ to the mix.
This ended with me spending a morning with a small burr tool in a Dremel and cutting around all the hardened stuff before the bolt gave in and felll out.
I swore that after that I would never use another ‘easy out’ tool. However today after an hour of trying to think of any other method, got the Dremel out again and bored a small hole and the bolt just turned out.
No further comments are needed, but just wanted to mark the occasion with more than just a surprised expression and tears of joy.

I've had zero success with easy outs! I use a welder now which works 80% of the time, all the time.

I've found they work quite well if the bolt has been overtightened and sheared, if its rusted and snapped then they won't won't work.

Not when used as intended. The problem is that people try to extract seized fasteners and can't feel when enough is enough torque.

Enough is enough minus half a turn just like when tightening a bolt up to FT.

I don’t like them, seems wrong when you think the harder a bolt/stud is stuck the more the easy out is trying to expand it.

Yes, but my point is that they are designed for seized fastenings, only those that have been sheared but otherwise free. Bearing in mind how brittle they are, it would be strange to assume otherwise.
