Oil transfer

What are folks using for oil transfer into awkward places like diffs or gearboxes.with awkwardly placed filler plugs?

I have a number of 5 and 20 litre tubs of different oils for different cars.

Best current example is I need to change the gearbox oil on the BMW. It needs to be done at 40°C so I guess I need to be relatively quick and the oil is in a 20l tub. What's the best way to transfer it?

Oil temp will most likely be to check the level, not to actually change the oil.

I have a collection of three of these - for standard gear oils - bought from a garage closure sale. And soiled by me - as I melted/written what was in them with a soldering iron in the plastic body.

Pardon our interruption...

And two of these with the adapters for filling automatic boxes - one for VAG DSG boxes and one for Merc boxes (saves cleaning it out between jobs)


Do not NEVER buy an air operated gearbox filling pump - they just too messy and not controllable....

I got one of them and use it sometimes for odd small quanties of gear oil - top ups - just suck it out of 5ltr can.

I did have to weld tack the plunger washer retaining nut on inside as mine kept coming apart in use! Another frustrating messy problem.

I think mine has been Loctited and with gear oil, l take the end off and fill the chamber on the vice.

We had a temporary apprentice who managed to dislodge the seal and pump oil down his arm twice. He then made the mistake of losing his temper throwing my syringe on bench therefore removing his need to borrow my tools and go back to using an old squeezy bottle.
