Agree. That's kinda what I meant. If I was doing it with a jack this would be quickest. But my God still so slow!id agree but compared to a bottle jack thats even slower

That has to be the dumbest waste of materials & time thing I've seen in a long, long time.
Least the last one was splitting logs at a sensible speed, even if it might cut off his thumbs with ease.FFS, another thread turning into a utub load of video thats noy even porn
I have a machine mart 4 tonner. Surprisingly capable.I bought one of these Screwfix Titan ones and its been brilliant....I think I paid £179 a year or so ago when it was on offer

- 1.5kW Induction Motor
- 4-Ton Splitting Force
- 25 x 37cm Log Capacity
- Splits up to 220 Logs/hr
- Safe 2-Handed Operation
It looks unused!!!
It was then. Chopped many tons since then.It looks unused!!!
post 63 does deserve a mention as not everyone can swing an axe theres a difference between the sizes of themLeast the last one was splitting logs at a sensible speed, even if it might cut off his thumbs with ease.

Come on Fizzy , fez up .I have a machine mart 4 tonner. Surprisingly capable.
Have a selection of pusher logs handy. Much faster and you get more power at the start of the stroke.
There is a screw version of the splitter, it need a good slow strong gearing , but once the screw is engaged it needs little lever effort to keep it feeding it on the splitter screw . Brilliant for straight grained woods but not so hot for big knots , branch forks or tree crown woodpost 63 does deserve a mention as not everyone can swing an axe theres a difference between the sizes of them
as goes for any machine out there you can loose fingers/thumbs easily enough and that includes hand axes
most of the time i just use a club hammer and wedges to split the wood
I will be doing it outside next timeCome on Fizzy , fez up .
The fork lift splitter worked brilliantly last night on a straight grained log it's was a different story when we tried to split a branch fork about 9 inches in dia on the thickest lower part of a branch 17 inches long
The splitter went in an inch or more then we heard a creaking & groaning , thinking it was about to split nicely as the blade on the splitter head ( a Woodsman's felling axe ) was apple pip edge sharpened by me ) was well sharp.
Suddenly there was a very loud bang . The splitter was still in the same position in the log but the 250 x 50mm section of floor joist spanning 400 between the forks wasn't , there was a nice almost perfect round clean hole through it as it broke into two pieces .
We had to " tap " the log off the splitter blade with a sledge hammer .
Fizzy put his thinking cap on and said , " Next time we'll put the forks close together ." then we stopped playing & loaded his truck with already processed wood & easy to split logs .
Fizzy may I suggest you get some very thick carboard , carpets or a horse blanket etc. to protect the Landrover incase we get flying splits pieces next time were do it
I prep and bring my small two stroke chain saw with new blade & fuel next week end if you like .
2025Apparently Fizzy also has a related story to tell of , " The Great Soup explosion 2nd March 2024 "
