I'm thinking if a new owner went full electric they'd insulate the house to within an inch of its life...then fit solar.
In effect getting as close to a passive household as possible...that's certainly my plan for my next house!
Most people would slow charge their EV overnight to make use of the cheaper rates.

If the property is unheated, the chances are that the fabric of the building will deteriorate quite quickly. You will stand to lose more in property value in the long run, than you would having the gas supply left on, and some sort of heating, even at a low level, to keep the dampness at bay.
Don't have to but want to, just them being ***** which they can be, they could disconnect at street and cap both ends off but it's much more money for contractors to rip it all out and much more to put it all back.

Oh yes it's the cost. It's easier to half-**** your drive reinstatement than a road one, where there's a 2yr guarantee requirement.
It's irrelevant what any of us think, it's there's and if they want it back they can take it simple as that.

look at the cutout fuse holder most have there amperage stamped on. a lot are 60 to 80 amp

when all said and done the op is getting what he wanted no supply onto his property
if anyone thinks they are gong to leave a live pipe up to the house after theyve removed the meter by the ops request then its think again
since the op has requested no meter they have every right to fully disconect the property even if that means digging up the drive to fully disconnect the supply
you dont want that done fit the meter back on and pay the standing charge
now for the price of the standing charge douberling
i wonder if its the new data charge of 150.00 a year paid for by the users its possible but i dont think it is but its possible

Hasn't been heated for ten years or more and its fine. No signs of any damp at all. No cooking, laundry, or people sleeping there to cause condensation, which helps massively. I wouldn't want to leave the heating on in any case when unattended, just in case something went wrong.

In the end I decided to have a gas meter re installed and pay the rip off standing charges.
I read somewhere that later this year that companies will no longer be allowed to charge standing charges. Whether this is true or not, I don't know, but it will be a result for me, even if they do increase unit charges to make up for it.
I did look into having a heat pump, but it seems a lot of hassle, and an awful lot of money for something that will most likely be unsatisfactory in an older property.

Apparently standing charges aren't being scrapped but ofgem are looking to make them optional, basically if your not charged one it will be added to the unit rate so the more you use the more you pay, another way for the energy industry to get more out of us

a question though
did it cost you to have the meter reinstalled
as its been a while since you had the meter removed from the property before they sent letters to fully disconnect the property
only asking as some might decide to remove the meter from the property until they get the letters to remove the the gas line from the property to a degree its refusing to pay for the meter standing charge until they send out that letter and have it reinstalled before they continue to cut the line
