Had a Umarex MP5 come in, broken cocking handle, then another one, so I figured there must be more out there and get on and make half a dozen and advertise them, new ones in 416 stainless, originally made half rice half ally:



New tap cut the 2.5mm threads just perfect. Need to source some proper screws as the originals are soft as chocolate!

Replaced discs and pads on my colleague Fiat 500, oil change and used part of the wasted oil to add a cover on my machinery

yesterday actually I made a start on solving the no cranking issue with the range rover !
similar issues to either a duff battery or starter but then wouldn't crank at all , so battery is good put a power probe to stater and starters good so a bit of metering and the 12v to starter is only getting 6 or 7v a bit of YTing and it's all pointing to the switch block on the bottom of the barrel well , an hour so of finding hidden fixings and it's out

and the offending article

high resistance across the pins which supply the starter motor so new switch block on order and hopefully she'll be up and running again . Apparently a common issue on older vehicle ,well it is twenty this year .

Assembled the bottom end of my MS361
It has been a messy war but I think I've won.

Heated up the crankcase halves and inserted the bearings straight out of the freezer.
Despite they were respectly at 150°C and -10°C I've had to drive them in with an hammer.
I've made a gasket because the ones from the kit are for a completely different saw and it's been a nightmare to make it.
Placed it in position after applying sealant on both sides and crankcase
I've then heated up the inner races and the crankshaft slipped in no problems on the flywheel side, on the clutch side on the other hand, I've had to seriously hit with an hammer to make it slide in position.
I've then tightened the 3 screws around the bearings.
Once at room temperature I've aligned the crank within a 0.1mm gap. (0.9 on the clutch side and 1mm on the flywheel side).
Little bit of oil, and it feels little bit tight but spins smoothly so I believe it just needs little bit break in.
Hopefully on tomorrow I'll be able to finish to assemble the engine or at least install the top end

Flail links glued together and a bit of black over the important bits, should look the part!
A bit of black on me balls but that will wear off!

This chainsaw is a complete pain.
I've just finished for today.
Managed to fit the top end only.
Because I've had to run an M14x1.25 tap through the sparkplug hole after having installed the top end which has been another little pita due to gasket trimming and filming everything.
Anyways used the grease cheat and it apparently worked perfectly fine.
We use it at work to repair threads after having removed broken or stuck glow plugs on cylinder heads.
But I don't have any compressed air and I still have to fit the flywheel which needs repair.
I've used brake cleaner to wash the installed cylinder but it might be not enough

Eventually I've installed the clutch and used the impact driver to spin the engine at around 3000 rpm.
Nothing came out, no scratches on the piston or cylinder wall I think I've done for today

Looks to me like a magnetic read head and magnet strip, I like them and have a few now on my DRO setups.
It is this stuff:

What is the purpose of the linear rail

The bearings and magnetic reader head are bolted to the tailstock casting and the linear rail supports and guides the magnetic tape and its extrusion. Its all sprung loaded and a "tooth" just bears on the nose of the tailstock barrel.

Yesterday I made a complete and running engine into a pile of bits.

Because my V8 was actually a V7...

There was a bit of chuffing on one bank which we'd hoped was a stuck valve. Tested compression and got good compression on all but #8 which was zero. Managed to find my borescope and had a peer down the spark plug hole and something wasn't right. Ah well time to take the head off and found a burnt valve.

This was a more or less bought sight unseen engine that was running LPG. Looks like I've been lucky and there's no worrying damage to the bores or piston in fact the rear four cylinders on the engine still have some cross hatching visible and the front four are a bit smoother but with no lip at the top so for an engine of this age in pretty decent shape.

Off to see Mr @GRW's new workplace this morning and see about sorting out the valves / head.

Check the cam lobes for wear while the heads are off, they can and do wear badly
