Terminology - Steelfixer, Bender?

I was reading the english pages of http://backpackwelding.com/ yesterday and wondered if they were using the right words here...

"The Backpack Welder (BPW) is a welding system that is worn on the back of the steelfixer. The lightweight welding machine is mounted on a backcorrecting, adjustable harness and includes several grounding options. Mass can be made by the shoe, the knee or glove.

This system was developed by a bender for the steelfixing industry, but the BPW can be used in any situation!"

What do we call these in the UK, I've not heard either term used.

The wording looks like it's lost a bit in translation.

I see in the pic at the top he has a kemppi minarc mig strapped to his back.

Just had a thought about the "mass" bit....they could be saying instead of a mask you can shield yourself from the arc with your shoe/knee /hand.

The Mass seems to mean the earth connection, he must have a cable running down to his glove. He was wearing a head mounted shield in the video and for a Minarc you still need power from somewhere. There is a Hobart welder which is battery powered which is literally use anywhere.

I was specifically interested in the term "steelfixer" and "bender", I found some reference to them on Canadian amd USA job sites but was wondering if we had such a job in the UK?

Steelfixer, certainly. Someone who wires rebar together for reinforced concrete construction, normally on site, but occasionally in the supplier's workshops.

I imagine a "bender" would be either the operator or the machine which bends rebar to the desired shape. One often sees flatbed artics laden with pre-bent rebar destined for site.

I spent a few very long weeks building a prison near Bromsgrove as a steelfixer/shuttering carpenter. Oh, the mud. Horrible.

I'd say 'mass' means 'earth' too. As soon as I read the post the Spanish welding term 'masa' came straight to mind.

Another term for metal workers that I have heard, and seems to be becoming accepted at leat in my field of work is 'Metal Botherer'.
I liked it as soon as I heard it.

Sounds somehow akin to Kiddy Fiddler. Which sort of puts me off.

We call anglers "fish botherers" I don't see how you made the link between metal botherer and kiddy fiddler, it seems a bit tenuous at best. The fish was relevant though
