Can you ever have enough tools?

I've been buying tools from I was a teenager. My garages are bursting at the seems with equipment

Rather than savings like sensible people perhaps I have my tools and equipment which grows further every month. After some 20 years of constantly buying tools for automotive, DIY and welding use I still see stuff I "need".

Is there ever a point when the urge to buy more tools slows down.... do other members have the same problem

I reached a level where the tools I have can be made to do what I need to do - I don't feel the need to buy stuff "just in-case" any more.

I owned a Renault 11 34 years ago - to get the door hinge pins out was a right pain - I borrowed a simple tool at a breakers yard that made removing them a piece of cake. I saw the same tool for sale and bought it. Not used it once in the years since.

Bought a tool in Sears in the US in Jan 1999 to make filling bearings with grease quick and easy . . . turns out using your fingers is just as quick - another tool never used . . .

ps. Are you sure "problem" is the right word or is it just a fact of life.
Maybe better to accept it will happen and there's nothing you can do about it - you wouldn't spend time asking if gravity was a good thing...

im lucky to a degree most of the tools i have can be mixed between the jobs that i do

so most of the electrical tools is geared around that even the chainsaw can be used between jobs

the lathe and milling machine is just an add on to the tools whilst the plasma cutter is really handy for the sheet steel instead of the grinders

I have slowed down massively with tool purchases, I also find there is a huge tool availability out there which was not there 20 years ago, the access to make these purchases is so much easier, I have just managed the temptation and urge to splash the cash lately, I have bought tools I cant even find any more that I did not get out their packaging.

Same here, but I don't think its been a problem. I have mostly bought tools because of a need at the time, and only renting if I doubt I'll ever need the tool or machine again in the future.
I have bought many quality and even duplicate used tools just by chance encounters, such as vise's / vice's.

Now that cancer has raised its ugly head, I'm rethinking my situation and will be downsizing everything as there's no one in my extended family interested in what I do and enjoy; and I don't want to leave my wife burdened with disposing of things later on.

I'm a tool addicted.
And yes I know there are things I can avoid to buy but...
Suddenly happens the occasion where I'd needed the tool I've avoided to buy and I simply just scroll here and there seeking for bargains.
Yes I've already ran out of storage space.
I don't buy new tools so often.
I rather buy old used stuff saving money . when possible.
I've had a look on ebay on yesterday I ended up buying stuff (more on the today I acquired/ordered thread in a couple minutes).
Problem is that I've seen an huge amount of stuff I'd like to get.
Fortunately from the same seller, and we already agreed for a shipping discount.
Anyways one thing I'd love to get but I know I'll probably never ever use in this life.
A wonderful Emuge MAN axle threading dies set.
Including an huge die stock, dies M95,M100,M110 and other two I can't remember everything in a nice wooden box.
I can't justify even thinking to pay 250 for them.
Useful for heavy mechanics but for me not really that much.
Great for parts that you can fit on the lathe but again I simply can't.
You'll probably going to a post in the future where I tell you I got this thing because I know myself and my weaknesses.

I resisted a set of hand turning tank cutters with back nuts etc. from 1/.2" to four inches in half inch steps . it went off eBay at the end of the slot for £32 , a week or so later my mate wanted a two inch broach for his mag drill .. £38 or so IIRC. Recently I ended up hand cutting doing chain drilling & filing a 2 " hole in 1/2 " thick steel ..... Oh why didn't I buy the hole cutter set
