MX (mail exchange) record changing.

I have a domain which is hosted by Eclipse currently, but they will not answer emails and they drop the line when calling about transferring it. They have already lost me an important domain, so want to redirect mail to my Ionos account. I have adjusted the MX records as Ionos show, but now what happens? Do I suddenly see that domain appear in my list or what?

Changing the the DNS MX record is going to point the domain to a different mail server. I wouldn't expect the domain to appear on Ionos, as it's still with Eclipse, you've just sent the mail to Ionos. Do you have a server with Ionos?

Who hosts your domain name? Note this doesn't have to be the same at your mail server or Web host. It's simply the registrar and will provide the name server which points to the DNS server for the domain which in turn points to the mail servers etc.

Not to my knowledge, they just host several domains and their associated email accounts. I do have a webspace with them too, which isn't in use. I cannot get the domain transferred so trying to get the domain back into use via the back door. All I can do is change the A and MX records. Once the mail is sent Ionos, how do I retrieve it? I have to set up the mailbox I think.

I have just had a callback from ionos after a chat session and have got it all sorted out. It is quite a complicated business! Anyway I had to change the A, CNAME, MX and TXT records. It then appeared in my domain list as "external domain" which I can now set up in the usual way.

Keep in mind, if your domain is still hosted with Eclipse, you are still at their mercy irrespective of who is processing your mail or hosting.

I appreciate that. However they went radio silent a couple of years ago, support@ is ignored and the telephone calls I made had the line dropped. I even stopped paying for the website but all I eventually got was a single Threatogram.
I escalated it from them to Nasstar and all the way to ICANN? And they all referred me back to Eclipse. My classicmicrocars.com domain is now held to ransom on one of these cyber squatter cowboy sites and there is nothing I can do about that either.

Look like they may have entered administration anyway. If you have access to any sort of management portal your best bet is to transfer the domain out yourself.
I can personally recommend Mythic Beasts for cost effective and reliable domain registration, although it would probably make more sense if you just transfer it to ionos if they are running your website/mail server
